Sky Q subscription error messages

For help with Sky Q subscription error messages see the suggestions below.

  • "Upgrade your subscription now by pressing the red button"

    You can upgrade to some channels directly from your Sky Q box by tuning to the channel you want to subscribe to.

    If you see the message "Upgrade your subscription now by pressing the red button":

    1. Press the red button on your Sky Q remote.
    2. Follow the instructions and enter your Sky TV PIN.
    3. You’ll see the channel subscription cost and your new total monthly cost.

    There'll also be a pro rata charge on your next bill if you subscribe part way through a month. For more details, see Viewing and understanding your Sky bills.

    If you see the message "Upgrade your subscription online to download from this channel", you’ll need to visit Sky Upgrades.

  • "To use this service you need to upgrade your subscription"

    You'll see this message if you’ve recently cancelled your subscription or need to upgrade to use this service.

    Go to channel 106 where you’ll see a message that tells you what to do next.

    If the channel shows as normal, please contact us.

  • "Sky Q box not enabled or subscribed for services"

    You'll see a subscription error message if you’ve recently cancelled your subscription or need to upgrade to use some services.

    Go to channel 106 where you’ll see a message that tells you what to do next. 

  • "You don't have the required subscription"

    You'll see this message if you’re trying to download without the required subscription.

    To subscribe:

    1. Go to channel 401 for Sky Sports or channel 301 for Sky Cinema.
    2. Press the red button and then follow the on screen instructions.

    To subscribe to Sky Box Sets, Ultra HD or HD, go to Sky Upgrades.

  • "If you’re using this box for the first time, please wait a few minutes. Otherwise, you may need to check your subscription for this channel on this box"

    If you've recently installed your Sky Q Mini box you may receive this message while your box is activating.

    To watch TV on your Sky Q Mini box, you must have an active broadband connection and the Sky Q Multiscreen pack. You can check your subscription at My Sky.

    If you're seeing this message on a channel that's not part of your Sky TV subscription, such as BT Sport, Box Nation or Racing UK, you'll need to contact that Pay TV provider for information on enabling viewing on the Sky Q Mini box or the Sky Q app.

    If you're still having problems, try restarting your Sky Q box, followed by your Sky Q Mini box if you see the same message on both:

    1. Switch your Sky Q box off at the mains.
    2. Check that both ends of all cables are securely connected.
    3. Switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
    4. Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear then press Home on your Sky Q remote.
