The White Lotus: Season 3, Episode 6 – ‘Denials’ explained Hero Image

What happens in episode six, ‘Denials’?

WARNING: Major spoilers for season three, episode six ahead.

Imagining what would happen if he did turn the gun on himself, Tim hides it in a drawer and pops more of Victoria’s pills before going to bed. She is convinced his sleeplessness is about Piper’s decision to move to Thailand, but he tells her he’s not worried about that.

The next morning, Valentin slips out of Jaclyn’s room but having not imbibed as much as the other two girls, Kate is up bright and early and spots him as he leaves. She later tells Laurie about what she saw, which annoys Laurie considering she was pushing her so hard to hook up with Valentin. Kate is shocked at her strong reaction, and Laurie ignores Valentin when he arrives at their table. Back in Jaclyn’s room, her husband Harrison finally returns her call, and they have a warm conversation.

On the boat, Lochlan and Saxon wake up in bed naked next to each other. Saxon has flashbacks from the night before, revealing that Chelsea turned him down, and Lochlan had sex with Chloe in the bed next to him while he masturbated. As he gets dressed, more memories come into focus, and it’s revealed Lochlan went so far as to give him a ‘helping hand’. Chloe gets an agitated call from “Gary” for continuing the party without him, and she admits to Chelsea she hooked up with both brothers the night before. She fears “Gary” may leave her over it, and she does not want to lose the lifestyle he offers her, so she goes off to bribe the deckhands to keep quiet. Lochlan has no memory of the night, but Saxon is left feeling sick and struggling to look at his brother over what happened.

Belinda wakes up next to Pornchai, but gets a shock as her son Zion arrives and catches them in bed together. Thankfully, he’s happy for her. Fabien invites her to join a staff dinner that evening where he will be debuting his musical talents, which she begrudgingly accepts.

As Saxon and Lochlan arrive back at the villa, Victoria tells the brothers about Piper’s plans, and state they are heading down to the meditation centre that morning to “make sure it’s not a cult”. Lochlan is supportive of Piper, but Saxon still can’t look at her brother, blaming the hangover for his bad mood.

Chloe returns to “Gary” who immediately accuses her of sleeping with one of the brothers but pushes it to one side as he “needs her help” with something – he'd like to throw a dinner party that night.

In Bangkok, Rick meets with Sritala, and says that the “director” wants to come to her house so see what she’s like in her own surroundings. She’s hesitant because of her sick husband but eventually agrees.

Piper takes Victoria, Tim and Lochlan to the monastery, but leaves them outside as she meets with the residing monk. She gets emotional as she admits she struggles to fit in with her parents. The monk agrees to meet with the parents and answer any questions they might have, but Victoria has gone wandering around the compound, leaving Tim to go in alone.

As Tim talks to the monk, he begins to understand more why Piper wants to go there. He asks what happens when you die, and the monk refers to it as a “drop of water returning to the sea, coming home”.

With the family out, Gaitok breaks into the Ratliff villa in a bid to retrieve the gun. He does so just in time. He gets back to the guard house just as his superior notices the gun is missing but is able to reassure him that he just took it out briefly on patrol. The pair head to the firing range for practice, where Gaitok is asked if he has the killer instinct to fire the gun at someone.

Saxon and Chelsea talk at the pool about the night before, and he asks why she rebuffed his advances. Chelsea tells him she wouldn’t sleep with him as Rick was her “soulmate”. She, in turn, calls Saxon “soulless”, which strikes a nerve.

Laurie wrestles with confronting Jaclyn about sleeping with Valentin, but when she does Jaclyn denies it. Tensions begin to simmer among the three of them, with Laurie throwing Kate in it for catching them. Jaclyn tells her she must be mad about something else.

When Tim returns to the family, he tells Victoria that the monk seemed legit. She is annoyed but comes up with a proposition for Piper: Spend one night at the monastery, and if she’s still happy with it, she’ll support the year-long trip. Piper agrees and is happy when Lochlan says he’ll join her.

Back at the villa, Victoria tells Tim she doesn’t have the willpower to continue living if she was poor, and that the children should fear poverty. Knowing they’re about to lose everything, Tim imagines shooting Victoria in her sleep before taking his own life.

Chloe meets Saxon and Chelsea at the pool, telling Saxon that “Gary” knows about him and that he’s been invited to dinner that evening. When Chelsea wonders if he is looking for a third, Saxon brags that he would only have a threesome with two women. Chloe immediately counters this by saying he effectively had a threesome with his own brother the night prior, shocking Chelsea. Freaked out, he leaves.

At the villa, Jaclyn berates Kate for “talking about her behind her back”, still denying her encounter with Valentin the night before. Laurie suggests they go to a Muay Thai fight with Valentin and the Russians that night, but with the atmosphere increasingly chilly, the others pass on it.

Lochlan and Piper join a guided meditation, during which he gets flashbacks from the night before, realising what happened.

On her way home, “Gary” corners Belinda at the hotel and invites her to the party. When she declines, he tells her they need to talk and invites her to visit anytime. As she joins Zion by the pool, she’s visibly shaken, prompting him to ask what’s going on.

In Bangkok, Frank agrees to pretend to be the Hollywood filmmaker if Rick doesn’t bring the gun. Despite swearing he wouldn’t, he goes back on his word. As Sritala welcomes them into her home, her husband joins them – and Rick hesitates, before stepping inside.
