Succession: Season 4 Hero Image

Where can I watch Succession?

Succession is exclusively available on Sky Atlantic, with all four seasons available to watch now. The fourth and final series ended in May 2023, and can be watched on demand now. Succession is not available to watch on Netflix and can only be watched on Sky in the UK.

How does Succession end?

Succession ended in dramatic style - as the GoJo deal went through with Shiv stabbing her brother Kendall in the back at the eleventh hour to vote against the family retaining Waystar Royco and him taking over as CEO. She started the episode backing the takeover - as Lukas had promised she would be brought in as CEO of the new company.

After learning her estranged husband Tom had been chosen instead of her, Shiv decides to side with her brothers Roman and Kendall, before later changing her mind again just as the board votes. Kendall and Roman exchange furious words, before a physical fight breaks out.

The episode – and show – ends with Lukas and his business associates celebrating as the new owners of Logan Roy’s Waystar empire.

Does Kendall take over?

Unfortunately, despite being promised aged seven that he would be the heir to family empire, it all ends in tears for Kendall. His brother-in-law Tom, who stabbed his own wife Shiv in the back at the end of series three, ends up taking over the company he married into. The episode ends with Kendall seemingly considering his own future, looking out to sea.

Do Tom and Shiv end up together?

Despite repeatedly betraying each other throughout the last four series, there seems to be a glimmer of hope for the future of Tom and his pregnant wife Shiv. They finish the episode tenderly holding hands in the back of a chauffeur driven car for newly-crowned CEO Tom – who is still wearing his wedding ring.

Why does Shiv turn on Kendall?

In the shocking finale, viewers saw Shiv betray her own brother and block his ascent to CEO by passing the deciding vote to allow the GoJo deal to go through. She had supported Kendall taking over the family business, but it was seemingly the moment he put his feet on their late father Logan Roy’s old desk that was the final nail in the coffin for Shiv and Roman.

Speaking on the show’s official podcast, Jeremy Strong – who plays Kendall – said: “I think they just can’t tolerate seeing Kendall win, in a sense. I think what they perceive as his sort of grandiosity and self-importance and putting his feet up on dad’s desk – they can’t stomach it.”

Jeremy also hinted that it was payback for Kendall backing brother Roman in getting far-right candidate Jeryd Mencken elected as President earlier in the series. He added: “There is payback happening, and maybe they think that Matsson is the lesser of two evils. Maybe they think I will be, you know, the Mad King.”

Does Kendall die at the end of Succession?

No, but the series, and show, ended on a sombre scene of Kendall walking through Battery Park in New York with Logan’s former bodyguard Colin walking behind. Viewers thought Kendall might kill himself at the end of the scene, and Jeremy Strong says that during one take of the scenes he did try and end Kendall’s life.

He said: “I climbed over the barrier. It always, to me, felt like there was nowhere – there’s no coming back from this. And I looked at these waves. And it was so windy that day and so cold. And there was some piece of metal clanging and it was this terrible sound, and I sort of couldn’t bear it. And I stood up and walked slowly to the barrier that was set up there and climbed over it. And I didn’t really know what I planned to do. And the actor playing Colin saw me and ran and stopped me from doing it.”
