What happens in And Just Like That: Season 3, Episode 9 – ‘Present Tense’?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead

Carrie

Aidan is still at Carrie’s apartment, but there is a clear source of frustration growing over her working friendship with her downstairs neighbour, Duncan. Over morning coffee, Aidan can’t resist grilling Duncan about his part and becomes territorial… which doesn’t go unnoticed by Carrie, who is extremely uncomfortable.

She later shares her frustrations about the conversation with Seema, admitting about cheating on him in the past with Big, fearing it’s put a dent in his ability to trust her.

That night, Duncan and Carrie have a working evening together going over their transcripts, when Aidan knocks on Duncan’s door asking about when he should cook dinner. Carrie tells him that it’s going to be a late night, and he pushes, saying he’ll cook for the three of them and he just wants to know when to start it. Carrie tells him to start without her.

When she gets home, Carrie cuddles up to Aidan in bed and thanks him for understanding, but he responds by telling her she stinks of smoke and tells her to take a shower, clearly sulking. She does so, but then goes to sleep in the spare room.

The next morning, Carrie is still mad at him, and the pair get into an argument in the kitchen about the root of their problems. She then storms out, and heads for some retail therapy. She then meets Aidan for lunch, who admits that he has trust issues with her and other men. When she realises that he’s speaking in present tense, she gets mad and storms off.

When he chases after her, she tells him that she was 100% in and did everything he asked of her to regain his trust, and she’s angry that he still can’t get past it, even when he’s broken their own rules. He notices she says “was” and asks if she is still in. She says she can’t give any more because everything she gave wasn’t enough.

Coming to the realisation that they need to split, Aidan tells her he thought they would make it this time. The pair heartbreakingly say goodbye, sharing a hug on the street as they go their separate ways.

The next evening, she tidies up her house, dresses up, and joins the girls for dinner.

Miranda

At Miranda’s apartment, Joy asks where the bottle of gin she left there has gone. Miranda jokes about it but eventually admits she threw it out because she’s an alcoholic.

The announcement surprises Joy, who then opens up about her own respective pasts and baggage, allowing them to move into the next step of their relationship.

Charlotte and Harry

Charlotte and Harry are both bedbound with their respective illnesses, though the kids are proving less than helpful, leaving the place a mess. Having enough of the state of the place, Charlotte gets up, staying at an angle, but immediately collapses when she stands upright. Harry shares that he’s successfully peed without a catheter for the first time following his prostate cancer operation.

Thankfully, Charlotte recovers from her vertigo in time for drinks with Carrie.

Seema

Seema and Adam are continuing their romance – though she is still not happy he doesn’t use deodorant, instead opting for cleansing crystals. When he gives her one, she decides to give it a shot.

With her new office up and running and with a new PA, she manages to land a much sought-after client – but after giving her only a 40-minute warning for a meeting on the other side of town, Seema has to leg it to get there.

Unfortunately, the crystals were not up to scratch when it comes to her intercity run, and when the client complains the waiter stinks, she gets incredibly paranoid and runs to the bathroom to put on some actual deodorant.

Lisa

Herbert is on a diet mission and taking it out on Lisa and the kids for the food they have in the house. He’s even calling her at work to complain about gaining a pound after going to the gym. She urges him to take Ozempic and stop bothering her.

Anthony

Anthony throws a dinner just between him and Giuseppe’s mother, Gia, where their simmering anger finally comes to the surface. Gia says that, as someone who fell in love with a much older man she then had to take care of in old age, she doesn’t want the same for her son. He tells her that he loves Giuseppe and they want to build a life together.

Dropping all facades, Gia then tries to buy Anthony off to keep away from her son, and when he refuses, she rages – just as Giuseppe comes through the door.

She tells Giuseppe that she is refusing to pay for his lifestyle anymore for as long as he’s with Anthony, and leaves.
