What happens in And Just Like That, Season 3 Episode 2 ‘The Rat Race’?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead

Carrie

In Manhattan, Carrie meets up with her old neighbour, Lisette, who now lives in her old apartment. While there, Lisette gives Carrie a necklace bearing the number of her old address, so she always has a little piece with her.

In her garden, Carrie gets to work on a new book – her first fiction story. However, her peaceful writing time is quickly ruined by a swarm of rats. She writes a text to Aidan to share her frustration, but unsure whether she can speak to him or not, deletes it.

But, much to her delight, Aidan later surprises her at the house, and the pair spend the evening together.

The next morning, Carrie shares her worries with Aidan about what she can and can’t share with him, unsure about where their boundaries currently are with their contact. He acknowledges he maybe went too far, and they should be able to talk more. But his family, especially his troubled son Wyatt, comes first.

As Carrie tries to find a gardener to sort out her garden, she decides to test the water, sending Aidan a photo of a table she likes for their future home, but gets annoyed when he just responds with a thumbs down emoji.

Carrie gets to work on fixing up her house, with tradesmen coming in to get rid of the rats and bringing in a handsome gardener called Adam, who her cat Shoe immediately takes a shine to. When he asks what her vision is for the garden, she admits she doesn’t know as she liked things as they were, but things need to change. Adam tells her it’s exciting to be in that position.

Miranda

At work, Miranda spots her co-workers watching a TV show called Bi Bingo – a Love Island-style dating show for bisexual people.

Soon, Miranda finds herself hooked, watching it in the privacy of her office during her lunch hour. She later shares her new addiction with Carrie and Seema over lunch, but only their server seems interested.

Back at work, Miranda reconnects with Joy, who is back in the city for work and wants to catch-up. The pair are soon gossiping in her office.

Miranda later returns to the restaurant, admitting to Carrie she has a crush on the waitress and wants to ask her out. But she’s left red-faced when the waitress admits she’s both straight and married with children. Miranda apologises, saying that she assumed because of the show she was bisexual, prompting the waitress to remind her it was just a show.

Later debriefing about the encounter with Carrie, she admits that she has a crush on Joy - though is scared to go there because she’s a work associate.

Charlotte and Lisa

At the school, Charlotte and Lisa get in a panic when they overhear the other mothers talk about the ‘Ivy Whisperer’ Lois Fingerhood, a college admissions specialist, outside the school. Alerting the principal, he tells them she is highly sought-after, and they might be too late to get her.

As Charlotte desperately tries to get a meeting with Lois, Anthony takes her for a walk to surprise her – he’s got his own place and will be launching Hot Fellas as a bakery. Delighted, Charlotte tells him it’s just down the road from the school – which is what he’s counting on.

Charlotte and Lisa track Lois down to her son’s Little League game to win her over and get a sought-after slot on her books. While she’s successful, she has to quickly track Lily down, catching her kissing ballet star Diego when she goes to her school to tell her the good news.

Once the meeting takes place, Charlotte and Lisa see both their children in a state of panic, believing that they haven’t done enough (or in fact, too much) to get into an Ivy League, with recommendations they scrap everything they’ve learned and take up new extracurriculars to stand out. Charlotte and Lisa are both raging and badmouth Lois – which she overhears, before promptly leaving.

Seema

Now officially back on the market, Seema is worrying where she went wrong – realising she’s hate-dating men who she knows annoy her.

At work, Seema is pulled in by her boss, Elliott, who comments on how her dating life ‘pains him’. He offers to bring in Sydney, and arranges a dinner between them, but the date turns out to be a meeting with a matchmaker.

Sydney quickly calls her out on who she is and what she’s like, proposing she give her business a try as she “has nothing to lose”. Later returning to an empty apartment, Seema begrudgingly agrees.

Going to a date arranged by Sydney, Seema overhauls her appearance and behaviour in order to impress the man in front of her, but quickly breaks down - insisting it was not the real her and she’s not as quiet and agreeable as she has made herself out to be. He says he appreciates the honesty, but then quickly dips out on her, faking going to the bathroom before messaging Sydney and telling her he’s not interested. Annoyed she’s having to be someone she’s not, she walks out, saying she doesn’t want Sydney’s help.
