What happens in And Just Like That...: Season 2, Episode 5 – ‘Trick or Treat’?
Warning: Major spoilers ahead
Carrie
Carrie joins the gang at a Halloween fundraiser thrown by Charlotte – though some of the ‘costumes’ are something left to be desired (though props to Harry with the wig).
Agreeing to join Seema and Nya at a bar, Carrie finds herself alone after her friends find someone to go home with quickly.
But the next day her luck changes when, during a debrief walk-and-talk on the phone with Seema, Carrie steps into a bike lane and causes a man named George to fall off his bike.
Feeling terrible for causing the accident, Carrie accompanies him to urgent care where he discovers he’s broken his wrist. More importantly? Carrie discovers he’s single, and George softens towards her after their awkward first meeting.
However, their chat is interrupted by a furious Paul, George’s business partner on an app, pushing him for a deadline on an app deck presentation.
Carrie later swings by George’s apartment, dropping off some food and offering him her typing services so he can finish his sales presentation. Flirting with each other, the pair kiss, but their time together is interrupted by Paul who turns up and doesn't take kindly to Carrie being a distraction.
When Carrie and George try to pick things up where they left off – even making it to the bedroom this time, Paul once again gets in the way with a furious FaceTime call demanding to know where the pitch deck is.
As George leaves Carrie in bed with Paul still on FaceTime, she takes the opportunity to sneak out, realising he’s already married… to his work husband at least.
Miranda and Che
Miranda and Che are navigating the complexities of living together, with Miranda’s alarm waking Che up at 5am – just an hour after they went to bed – so she can be there for Brady every morning in Brooklyn and make him breakfast.
In contrast, Miranda is exhausted after being kept up all night by Che and her rowdy friends.
Eventually, over a very hot curry dinner, Miranda breaks it to Che that their living arrangement isn’t working and for the sake of their relationship she has had to find somewhere else to crash. Che agrees and says as long as Miranda is happy then they’re happy to make it work.
However, things take a turn when Che watches the focus group’s reaction to the sitcom pilot. One participant brands Che’s character a “walking boomer joke that felt fake and sanitised”, not accurately representing the non-binary experience. Everyone else in the group agrees. Che is devastated and the sitcom is cancelled.
Back at the apartment, Miranda tries to be supportive, but Che feels defeated. She smokes a joint and wonders how they can afford their new luxury apartment in Hudson Yards.
As Miranda continues to be perky, Che snaps, saying that they just need some space to breathe for a few days, before breaking down in tears in Miranda’s arms. Miranda agrees to let them have some time to themselves.
Charlotte
While disappointed no one understood her and Harry’s Halloween couples’ costume, Charlotte gets a boost when Rock returns home from the skate park to share they were scouted by someone at Ralph Lauren.
Although Harry is sceptical about the legitimacy of the scout, Charlotte is excited that her child’s been given the opportunity and believes it to be legit after seeing the business card.
Together, Charlotte and Rock team up to pitch the Ralph Lauren modelling gig to a protective Harry.
While it seems to have worked, Charlotte spots Harry sneaking into the shoot in disguise to keep an eye on things as Rock takes test pictures. She tells him to leave, calling him out by making him admit he was only doing it because he had to be the tough parent for a change, rather than the fun one.
Seema
Seema tries to help Nya and Carrie get back on the dating scene by organising a night at a fancy hotel bar to scout for rich men.
Her plan seems to work flawlessly, with her hooking up with a gin salesman, but finds their night of lust sidetracked when he uses a penis pump in front of her to get things going because he suffers from erectile dysfunction.
While it’s quite a distraction, Seema continues to see him – but kicks him out of the house when, after sex, she uses a vibrator and he calls it inappropriate and “not cool”.
Nya
Nya is struggling to get back out there, having never really had the chance to properly date in New York before. But thanks to a night with Seema, she has a successful hook-up.
Riding high after a fun evening with the man she picked up at the hotel bar, she invites Miranda to move in with her while she sorts out what’s going on with Che and Steve.
