  • Using folders

You can create up to 491 folders in Sky Yahoo Mail to organise your emails:

    1. Hover over Folders on the left side of the screen.
    2. Select the folder icon that appears to the right.
    3. Enter a name for the new folder and select OK.
    4. You can directly drag and drop an email into the folder.

To create a subfolder, or rename or delete a folder, right-click the folder name and select from the menu.

To move a folder or subfolder, right-click it, select Move and choose the new parent folder. All emails will stay within that folder.

    Smart folders:

Smart folders allow you to read messages that have been put into specific categories. The new categories are Unread, Important, People, Shopping and Finance.

Your emails will filter into these folders automatically, but will also appear in your inbox with all other emails.

You can also click the Star button when you hover over an email in your inbox to add it to the Starred conversation folder.

To create your own folder for a specific email address or search result, select the Pin icon and a folder will automatically be created. All future emails or search criteria will filter into the new folder.

  • Using filters

    1. In the Tools Menu on the top right of the screen, select Settings and then Filters.
    2. Select Add and enter the information about your filter, then select Save.

      Filter Name:
Type a unique name for the new filter.

If an incoming message meets all of these conditions: Specify at least one characteristic of the messages to filter. For example, if you want to filter all messages from your sister, under From, select Contains and enter your sister's email address. Or you may want to filter specific keywords in either the subject field or the body of an email.

Then move the message to this folder: Select the drop down arrow and choose the name of the folder where you want the message to go.

    3. To delete a filter, choose the filter and then Edit or Remove

You can also right-click an email in your inbox and select Filter emails like this… Then enter the filter information as described above.

Please note: If you create more than one filter, pay attention to the order you create them. Sky Yahoo Mail will prioritise older filters if a message fits into both.

  • Using conversations

Conversations let you group emails together by subject, so you can track the related emails you've sent and received. It doesn’t affect how your send emails.

    To enable or disable Conversations:

    1. In the Tools Menu on the top right of the screen, select Settings and then Viewing Email.
    2. Under When viewing message lists, locate the Enable Conversations option.
    3. Deselect the checkbox to disable this feature or Select the checkbox to enable it.
    4. Select Save.

Please note: The Conversations feature is not available in Internet Explorer 8.

When contacts reply to an email, the interaction is called a "thread" and these are gathered together in a collapsible group. Only emails that respond to the thread will be included.

From your inbox or a folder, a threaded email will appear with:

    • The names of the contacts on the thread
    • The number of emails in the thread
    • A short snippet of the body of the latest email
    • The time/date of the latest email

When you open a thread, only the newest email will be expanded and it will appear at the bottom of the thread.

Select Expand All or Collapse message cards from the toolbar to see or hide all of the emails in a thread, or select the snippet line of an individual email to expand or collapse it.

Please note: Expand All will only be visible if all emails are collapsed.

With Preview Pane disabled (see "Changing your Sky Yahoo Mail display settings" in this article), you can select the arrow beside the thread in the list view to expand or collapse all emails.

To delete specific emails from a thread:

    1. Expand the email you want to delete.
    2. Select More.
    3. Select Delete Message. The email is moved to your Trash folder.

    To delete an entire conversation:

    1. Select the checkbox beside the thread.
    2. Select Delete

  • Using your calendar

    Creating new events:

    1. Select the Calendar icon and then select the New Event icon.
    2. Type a title for the event in the Title box.
    3. Select the start and end times, or check the All-day box.
    4. Use the drop down menu if you want your event to repeat.
    5. Type a location in the Location box. The location does not display when you send an invitation, so use the "Notes" box if you want to send location information to invitees.
    6. Type any attendee email addresses in the To box. You can return later to view their RSVP information: Attending, Not Attending, Maybe, and Not Yet Replied.
    7. Type more details about the event in the Notes box. This shows as the Message Information when you send an invitation, so don’t put anything in the Notes box that you wouldn’t want to share with all of your invitees.

      Please note:
The Notes box content does not display in the Calendar views (Day, Week, Month, or Year), but it does display when you rollover the event in the Event Summary.
    8. Select Reminder to set any reminder times and the method of reminder delivery.
    9. Select the Type of event from the drop down menu. Select Save.

    Creating a new calendar:

    1. Select the Calendar icon on the top-left hand side of the screen.
    2. Select Actions and then Create New Calendar.
    3. Type a name for the new calendar.
    4. Select a colour for the calendar. This will enable you to easily differentiate between your different calendars, e.g. Work and Personal.
    5. Select Save. The new calendar is added to your list of calendars.

  • Searching for emails

    1. Enter a word (e.g. “holiday”) in the search box at the top of the page and select Search Mail

      Please note:
You can search for all document or picture attachments in emails by typing “documents” or “pictures”.

    2. A list of emails containing the words you’ve searched for in emails’ content, subjects or senders will display in a new tab.
    3. Select one of the tabs above the results to sort them. Select Refine for an advanced search.
    4. Select Save at the top of the tab, to create a new folder in Smart Views where the results of your search will be saved.

    Search Discoverability:

To search for an email from a specific sender or with a particular subject line, hover your mouse over the sender’s name or the subject line and select the small magnifying glass icon.

    Sorting emails:

To sort your emails in a particular order, select the Sort by link in the grey bar above your inbox. This will display a drop down menu where you can choose how to sort your emails.

  • Forward mail to another account

Your mail can be delivered to your Sky Yahoo Mail account, another email account, or both.

To automatically forward incoming mail to an alternative address:

    1. In the Tools Menu on the top right of the screen, select Settings and then Accounts.
    2. Select your Sky Yahoo Mail account.
    3. Scroll down to Access your Sky Yahoo Mail elsewhere.

    5. Enter the alternative email address and select Verify Address. An email will be sent to this address with a link to verify the account.
    6. Once your account has been verified, select a forwarding option from the drop-down menu, then select Save.

Store and forward delivers incoming messages to both your Sky Yahoo Mail account and the forwarding email address (this is the setting we recommend).

Forward only forwards incoming messages to the selected email address. Copies aren’t saved in your Sky Yahoo Mail account.

Store and forward and mark as read delivers incoming messages to both your Sky Yahoo Mail account and the forwarding email address you selected. In both cases, the mail is automatically marked as read.

    To disabling auto-forwarding:

    1. In the Tools Menu on the top right of the screen, select Settings and then Accounts.
    2. Select your Sky Yahoo Mail account.
    3. Scroll down to Access your Sky Yahoo Mail elsewhere.
    4. Unselect Forward.
    5. Select your Spam option from the drop-down menu and select Save.

Don’t download spam ensures emails identified as spam won’t be downloaded to your email client (this is the setting we recommend).

Download spam with no special indicators downloads spam to your email client as a regular email.

Download spam but prefix with “Bulk” downloads spam to your email client, but identifies it as spam and it will appear with the word “Bulk”.

  • Using alternative email addresses

    3. Select Verify account. An email will be sent to this email address, with a link to verify the account.
    4. Once your account has been verified, select Save.
    5. Select on the arrow to the right of the From: field when writing emails and you’ll be able to select which address the message is sent from.

To make your reply-to address different from your sending address for outgoing emails:

    2. Then, in the Tools Menu on the top right of the screen, select Settings and then Accounts.

    5. Select Save.

You can now send emails from yourname@sky.com and have replies delivered to yourname@anotherdomain.com. Your recipients will see this address when they reply to your messages.
