What happens in episode three, ‘The Meaning of Dreams’?

WARNING: Major spoilers for season three, episode three ahead.

During the night, Victoria suffers a nightmare where she walks into a tsunami, but wakes up in bed alone, with Timothy on their balcony continuing to talk to people back home. She shares the dream to the family in the morning, and Piper tells her it could be a warning of something, prompting Saxon to mock her.

At breakfast, Rick spots Sritala and makes his move to introduce himself to her, claiming to be a film producer and offering her a meeting with a director in Bangkok. She accepts, and gives her card, but it’s clear Fabian isn’t totally buying it. When he returns to Chelsea, he refuses to tell her what he was talking about.

Meanwhile, the girls encourage Laurie to have a fling with their health advisor, Valentin, but she’s not so sure, prompting Jaclyn to arrange a private yoga session for them. Belinda gets closer to her co-worker, Pornchai, as she continues her higher learning programme, later taking a meditation bath as he soothes her.

Timothy’s legal woes continue as he receives a voicemail confirming the FBI have a warrant for his office back at home. As he spirals out, Lochlan shares tsunami footage from a nearby beach, while Saxon starts getting work messages as well – which Timothy successfully intercepts. Out of desperation, he then tells the family to embrace the digital detox and hand their phones and tablets over for the week. Saxon throws a tantrum, childishly blaming Piper for always getting her way. Timothy calms him down, telling him there’s ‘more to life than work’. Saxon instead places his energy into pushing protein shakes on Lochlan and promises to get him laid during the vacation.

Gaitok continues to try and win over Mook and vies for a job on Srtiala’s security. However, he’s mocked by her two bodyguards, who reveal Fabian would have fired him for failing to stop the masked gunmen at the gate had Sritala not intervened on his behalf. Rick attends another meditation session and begins to open up about ‘mistakes’ and ‘bad things’ he’s done in the past. He opines that he was never able to get to know his father before his death but suggests he may still be able to find some satisfaction.

Piper heads to a monastery to meet with the monk she travelled to Thailand to see but is told to return at 2pm later in the week. Meanwhile, Victoria gives a fretful Timothy one of her pills, and he falls into a deep sleep.

When Lochlan heads to a posture correction session, the practitioner says he sits defensively and is a ‘people pleaser’. He suggests he’s protecting himself from his ‘female side’, which unnerves him.

Chloe reveals to Chelsea that Gary had an ex-wife who ‘had a mental breakdown, swam out to the sea and never came back’. When Rick and Chelsea head off together to buy weed, Saxon steps in to flirt with Chloe, and she flirts back.

In town, Rick indulges in some strong weed and encourages Chelsea to get messed up, but she turns him down as there’s a beach barbecue at the resort that night. Instead, they head to a cobra show for some excitement, but it’s largely depressing. Rick, now high, feels bad for the reptiles and sneaks off mid-show to set the snakes free. This backfires when Chelsea is bitten by a highly venomous cobra. The panicked locals race her to the nearby hospital.

That evening at dinner, Chelsea has fully recovered, but Chloe notes this is the second time in two days that she has almost died. She and Gary have invited them aboard their boat the next day, but she jokes that with Chelsea’s run of luck maybe she should give it a miss. Their dinner is interrupted by Belinda, who has been having dinner with Pornchai nearby and now recognises Gary from The White Lotus Hawaii. She asks him about Tanya and calls him “Greg”, but he denies all knowledge and she awkwardly leaves.

Jaclyn, Laurie and Kate discuss faith and religion, and the girls are surprised that Kate goes to church in Texas. As the conversation moves to politics, they discover that Kate is a Trump voter. Their table falls into a stunned silence.

Timothy sleeps through the Ratliffs’ dinner, knocked out from the pill he was given, and Saxon mentions they have been invited on a boat trip the next day. He and Chloe sneak glances across dinner tables, which does not go unnoticed by “Gary”.

Meanwhile at the security gate, Gaitok is approached by his supervisor who tells him they need to meet with Fabian tomorrow. When Gaitok asks him why, he refuses to tell him.

At the end of the evening, Pornchai walks Belinda back to her room. Both a little tipsy, it seems there might be some chemistry between the two. As she turns in for the night, she is alarmed by an unidentified rattling noise coming from her bathroom.

Kate too is heading for bed, but en route she overhears Jaclyn and Laurie in the midst of another loaded conversation as they dissect the bombshell dropped over dinner.

At the Ratliff’s villa, Timothy takes more of Victoria’s pills to sleep but lies to her about it. When she asks if something’s going on, he ignores the question.
