The Day of the Jackal: Reviews Hero Image

For someone who likes to remain in the dark, this Jackal has everyone talking… Only on Sky Atlantic and NOW.

The Day Of The Jackal was one of the most gripping TV shows of 2024 – but don’t take our word for it, reviewers are saying the same thing.

Starring Eddie Redmayne as a mysterious assassin with a mission to complete and a score to settle, the series tracks this illusive gunman as smart and quick-witted MI6 operative Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch) starts to track him down.

One false move could be his downfall, and in this cat-and-mouse game of chase around Europe, sometimes it’s hard to remember who is who.

The series has proven so successful with viewers that season 2 has now been confirmed, but while we wait, there’s plenty of time to catch up on what’s gone down so far.

Sitting at a solid 86% on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, The Day Of The Jackal is only just beginning.

Here are what the reviewers have to say about the series, if you’re still not convinced to check it out yourself:

TVLine says:

It’s a rivetingly tense, effortlessly cool thrill ride that delivers plenty of pulse-pounding moments worthy of the big screen. But it also takes time to examine the very real human toll that all this action takes, with a surprising emotional depth that helps puts it right near the top of this year’s TV dramas. Boston Globe says:

Measured, meaty, modern, The Day of the Jackal is a suave espionage thriller that benefits from the luxury to run for 10 hours without padding. It’s dynamic enough to capture the audience, and hold them hostage, until the final shot. Full Review Here.

Decider says:

The Day Of The Jackal is a pure cat-and-mouse game thriller, made deeper by the knowledge that both the chaser and the chasee have about their jobs. While there are plenty of side characters in this story, the success or failure is fully dependent on the performances of Redmayne and Lynch, and both expertly inhabit their characters, both of whom will likely have some outside motivations affecting their decisions. We Got This Covered says:

Peacock's 'The Day of the Jackal' stuns with its ability to breathe fresh life into the tricky assassin flick genre. Eddie Redmayne's unsurprisingly fabulous performance doesn't just steal the show ⏤ it all but guarantees that a season 2 is on the way. Full Review here.
