The Thompson family (dad Ken, mum Lorna, and children Rachel, Dylan, and Sid) are finally getting back to their quiet lives after a series of somewhat comical misadventures. Rachel's former husband, American hippie `Cuckoo', remains absent after going missing while climbing in the Himalayas several years earlier. His alleged long-lost son Dale has left the scene after things with Rachel didn't work out, and Ken and Lorna's unexpected baby Sid is growing up fast and getting ready for school. It seems like everything is getting back to normal, until Ken receives some news out of the blue: he has a sister, she is a billionaire, and she wants to meet him and the family.
