This series follows British presenter James May as he goes to great lengths to discover how household objects work. Taking a selection of everyday items, the host examines the engineering and components that make up the products. Each object is laid out disassembled in a workshop, each piece separated and ready for May to put back together. Meticulously, the presenter rebuilds the item to its former glory and hopes that it functions correctly the first time around. Equipment featuring on the first series includes a petrol-powered lawn mower, an old-style rotary dial telephone and an electric guitar.
