In London 1985, Walter Easmon, his wife, Agnes, and their 13-year-old son, Kobna, have their comfortable routine disrupted when Walter's younger brother Valentine arrives from Sierra Leone. Having landed in the UK themselves over 13 years before, Walter and Agnes have both settled into their lives, working and earning enough to cover themselves while still trying to send as much as they can back home. Consequently, they fail to muster much enthusiasm for their newest house guest. Bringing chaos and laughter everywhere he goes, Valentine tests Walter's patience and frustrates Agnes, but forms a bond with Kobna and is ultimately adored by him regardless, all in the name of family.
