A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Teaser Trailer

Everything you need to know about Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

The story of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms occurs approximately a century before the events of Game of Thrones, and 100 years after the beginning of House of The Dragon.

The tale is based around characters affectionately known as ‘Dunk and Egg’ –  Ser Duncan the Tall, a young but courageous knight, while Egg is his small-in-stature young squire.

Together the pair are wandering Westeros.

This time period is a state of change for the Seven Kingdoms. While the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne, they are now without the dragons that made them so fearsome.

While the the last dragon is still within living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits await these two unlikely heroes.

The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s three novellas, which were later compiled into one volume called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – although most fans refer to them as The Tales of Dunk and Egg.

The Hedge Knight was released in 1998, The Sworn Sword in 2003 and The Mystery Knight in 2010.

When will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms be released?

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms season one launched in the UK January 19th, 2026 on Sky Atlantic and NOW, and new episodes aired weekly.

The full season has now been aired, with the season finale arriving on 23 February, 2026.

Episode 4 aired slightly earlier than usual on Friday 6th February. This was in line with its US release which was brought forward a few days to avoid clashing with Super Bowl LX.

How many episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are there?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (season one) consists of six episodes.

HBO executive Francesca Orsi told Deadline in May 2023 that the network is hoping the show runs for at least three seasons – one for each of the Dunk and Egg novellas written by George R.R. Martin.

Season two has already been confirmed, with filming commencing in Belfast, Ireland in December 2025.

It has also already been confirmed it will be released at some point in 2027.

Game Of Thrones ran for 73 episodes, while House Of The Dragon has aired two seasons, with a third launching in June 2026.

How many spin-offs does Game of Thrones have?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the third official TV show attached to the world of Game of Thrones universe.

The shows are all based in different time periods, detailing core events from Westeros history that affect the world as a whole.

Game of Thrones (2011 - 2019)

Game of Thrones is based on George R.R. Martin’s The Song of Ice and Fire book series and ran for eight seasons and 73 episodes.

The show chronicles key characters from the noble houses as they fight for their place on the Iron Throne – all while a long-dominant threat beyond their borders begins to rise and threatens to destroy Westeros as they know it.

Alliances are formed, tested and broken, betrayal is all too common, and bloodshed is a typical day for those involved in the battle for power.

Game of Thrones features a huge British ensemble cast of A-list stars including Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister).

House of the Dragon (2021 - Present)

House of the Dragon is set approximately 200 years before the start of Game of Thrones, and centres on the Targaryen dynasty.

In what Westeros history has referred to as the Dance of the Dragons, the story follows what happens when the ruling family of the Seven Kingdoms is split into two over an argument on who should succeed King Viserys I Targaryen.

On one side is Queen Rhaenyra, the eldest daughter of King Viserys and whom he declared to be his successor.

The other is King Aegon II, King Viserys’s eldest son, who usurped the throne upon his father’s death after encouragement from those around him as the “rightful” heir by history dictating rule to remain in male lineage.

What results is a devastating inter-family civil war where politics and family drama collide.

The cast includes Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II), Emma Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) and Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon).
