Members of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital care for the injured during the Korean War use humor to escape the horror and depression of the situation. Among the 4077's people are Capts Benjamin `Hawkeye' Pierce and `Trapper John` McIntire, Majs Margaret `Hot Lips' Houlihan and Frank Burns, and Cpl Walter `Radar' O'Reilly.
Ho-Jon, the Korean houseboy, has been accepted in Hawkeye's own alma mater for medical studies. Hawkeye's next problem is raising money for Ho-Jon's clothes and tuition. (S1 Ep1)
Hawkeye and Trapper discover that important medical supplies have been hijacked in Seoul by black marketeers, so they meet with the head of the marketing ring. (S1 Ep2)
Hot Lips becomes jealous of Lt Margie Cutler, for whose affection Hawkeye and Trapper are both competing. (S1 Ep3)
Hawkeye is named chief surgeon of the 4077th, to the great chagrin of Major Frank Burns. Jamie Farr is introduced as the cross-dressing Corporal Maxwell Q. Klinger. (S1 Ep4)
Hawkeye and Trapper move a North Korean POW patient into the Swamp and discover that he has the same blood type as Frank. They secretly plan to steal some of Frank's blood. (S1 Ep11)
It's Christmas and Hawkeye writes to his father describing his life at the 4077th. Amid the tension of the operating room he can still trade jokes with Trapper. (S1 Ep12)
A new nurse admits after her birthday party that no one has ever cared for her. The nurses refuse to date until their lonely colleague Edwina gets a date, so the men draw straws. (S1 Ep13)
In the middle of a cold snap, Hawkeye receives a pair of long-johns from home. Hawkeye gives them to an ill Trapper out of sympathy and he loses them in a poker game. (S1 Ep19)
Excitement runs high in the camp on the day of the Army/Navy football game, with several members of the 4077th putting money into a betting pool. (S1 Ep20)
Hawkeye becomes overly concerned when his patient fails to improve after surgery. Frank taunts Hawkeye by calling him 'Super Surgeon' which prompts a fight. (S1 Ep21)
Hawkeye's and Trapper's latest scheme succeeds when Frank and Hot Lips demand a transfer to another unit, but they soon realise that they will have to work double shifts. (S1 Ep22)
Ceasefire: News of a ceasefire has reached the 4077th. Everyone celebrates and says their good-byes, except Trapper, who remains skeptical. Hawkeye still has gambling debts to settle. (S1 Ep23)
Hawkeye and Frank clash as usual over the treatment of a soldier. Trapper fights desperately to save a badly injured man. He asks Mulcahy to pray for his surgical skills. (S1 Ep24)
