This drama series is an adaptation by writer Debbie Horsfield of the novels in Winston Graham's series following the life of Ross Poldark. In 1783, Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his hometown of Cornwall only to find the family estate in ruins, his father dead and his beloved Elizabeth betrothed to his cousin, Francis. With his world in tumult, Poldark spontaneously rescues Demelza, a young servant, and takes her with him to begin a new life in a chaotic Britain.
