The night is dark and full of terrors as Game of Thrones continues with season four – with the Red Wedding massacre having massive repercussions for everyone in Westeros.
Joffrey Baratheon continues to reign on the Iron Throne, discarding Sansa Stark in favour of Margaery Tyrell to further strengthen his house’s weight across the Seven Kingdoms.
In contrast, the Stark family are at their weakest, scattered around the continent if they’re alive at all. Their former ruling of The North is now taken over by the Boltons, who have taken up home in castle Dreadfort. Lord Bolton’s bastard son, Ramsay Snow, has proven to have a particularly sadistic streak – largely taken out on failed usurper, Theon Greyjoy, with torture and mutilation.
Over the Wall, the White Walkers are becoming more of a posed threat, and Jon Snow’s ties with the Wildlings now severed.
Over in Essos, Daenerys has quickly and efficiently gathered an army of thousands, freeing slaves all too willing to lay down their lives for their ‘Mother’ as she continues her quest to reclaim her birthright of the Iron Throne.
As The War of The Five Kings continues, Stannis Baratheon has resorted to supernatural means with the help of Melisandre in order to gain the upper hand.
With everyone fighting for a better grasp of power, allegiances are hanging on by a thread, and there’s no guarantee anyone will make it out of the season alive.

With Arya on the run, and others on the move, here’s how the drama unfolds.
Episode 1: Two Swords
Considering the House Of Stark defeated, Tywin Lannister breaks down the family’s ancestral steel sword, Ice, and forges two new ones - one for Jaime, and one for King Joffrey, who names it Widow’s Wail in ‘honour’ of Ned Stark’s beheading.
Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne arrives at King’s Landing ahead of the royal wedding of King Joffrey to Margaery Tyrell, in place of his brother Prince Doran, to the surprise of Tyrion.
Oberyn has a score to settle with the Lannisters after the rape and murder of his sister, Elia, at the hands of Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) and on command of Tywin.
Jon faces Maester Aemon and warns the Night’s Watch of the army of Wildlings threatening to storm Castle Black.
Back on the road, Arya and The Hound run into some old faces en-route to the Eyrie.

Episode 2: The Lion and The Rose

Melisandre continues to cast spells for Stannis Baratheon - this time burning three people at the stake as sacrifices to the Lord Of Light.
At King’s Landing, ahead of King Joffrey’s wedding to Margaery Tyrell, Tyrion makes a heartbreaking decision to protect Shae, then suffers numerous indignities at the wedding feast as Joffrey continues his callous behaviour.
But when the wedding turns into tragedy, Tyrion’s the one who could bear the brunt of the fallout.
Episode 3: Breaker of Chains
Cersei, on the warpath, points the finger of blame squarely at Tyrion and Sansa for murder, prompting Sansa to flee with the help of Ser Donos. He takes her to presumed safety - the care of a familiar, untrustworthy face.
Cersei later has a horrific reunion with Jaime as they mourn the loss of their son.
As Tywin wastes no time to make new plans for the Iron Throne, plans for Tyrion’s murder trial take shape as sides are drawn.
Tyrion visits Oberyn, denying he instructed The Mountain to murder his sister, prompting Oberyn to second guess the target for his vengeance.
Arya and the Hound continue through the Riverlands, and get kindness from strangers. Stannis starts to consider new ways to accrue an army.
Sam continues to fear for Gilly and the baby’s safety, and Wildlings continue their pillaging of villages in the North. Jon comes up with a plan of attack to prevent Castle Black.
Daenerys hits a new slave city, Meereen, to continue to build her army.

However, one person seizes the opportunity for the vengeance he has long desired.
While at a stop at Riverrun, Brienne and Podrick run into one of Arya’s old friends, who give them a clue as to where they might be able to find her, and potentially Sansa.
In the North, Alliser Thorne ignores Jon’s ideas on how best to protect Castle Black.
Finally, at the Eyrie, Lysa’s jealous streak gets the better of her, with disastrous consequences.
Episode 8: The Mountain And The Viper
It’s time for the trial by combat – Ser Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane vs. Oberyn ‘The Viper’ Martell. What starts out as a seemingly unfair fight proves to be more equal than most would have assumed, but one false move ends in vile bloodshed that will leave viewers stunned – and at least one main character with a death sentence.
In the North, The Wildlings continue their attacks and pillaging, but Ygritte spares two familiar faces. Ramsay, desperate to be legitimised by his father so he’s no longer a bastard, uses Theon to complete a task handed to him – with more violence and torture in the process and a huge betrayal to the Ironborn.

But before he leaves the Kingdom on a ship, Tyrion has some scores he needs to settle.
Finally, in Meereen, Daenerys struggles to keep her people happy, and when her dragons push things too far, she’s forced to make a heartbreaking decision for the good of her people.
