Using the accessibility settings on your Sky Q box

Turning on subtitles or audio description

Sky Q remote

While watching TV

  1. Press ? on your Sky Q remote to bring up accessibility options.
  2. Select Audio description or Subtitles to change the setting from Off to On.

Check the programme information for AD or an S to indicate if subtitles or audio description are available. 

Sky Q accessible remote

  1. Press the subtitles or AD button to bring up accessibility options on your screen.
  2. Select to change the setting from Off to On.

Please note: Audio description and subtitles are unavailable on the Sky Q app.

From the Home screen

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility, then Audio description or Subtitles, and change the setting from Off to On.

If subtitles aren’t appearing, and an S is in the programme information, try another subtitled show. If they still don’t appear, restart your Sky Q box:

  1. Switch your Sky Q box off at the mains.
  2. Check that both ends of all cables are securely connected.
  3. Switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
  4. Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear then press Home on your Sky Q remote.

It may take up to 5 minutes for functions on your Sky Q box to return to normal.

Please note: Sky Box Sets and Sky Cinema have a Subtitled section, but subtitles are also available for some shows in My Q. Subtitles are unavailable when watching in Ultra HD. 

Highlighting audio described or subtitled shows

You can highlight shows with audio description or subtitles available in the TV guide. Before you do, make sure you’ve turned audio description or subtitles on, then:

1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, and select Settings, then Accessibility.

2. Select Highlight programmes, then select Audio desc. or Subtitles

Using high contrast on your Sky Q box

To increase the contrast of your Sky Q, select the High Contrast option from your Accessibility settings: 

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility, then High contrast and change the setting from Off to On.

Turning Beep on audio description on or off

You can choose to hear a beep when you tune into a channel that's showing an audio described show. Make sure you’ve turned audio description on, then:

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, and select Settings, then select Accessibility.
  2. Select Beep on audio description and select On.
