Using the accessibility settings on your Sky Q box

We want as many of our amazing shows and movies to be as accessible to as many people as possible. That’s why all our Sky boxes come with a range of accessibility settings and features.

Support for blind and visually impaired people

Voice Guidance is a screen-reader on Sky Q, providing spoken navigational guidance for people with a sight impairment. It speaks out items on the screen as you navigate with the remote control.

To find out more, check out our guide to Voice Guidance.

Many shows and movies on Sky offer audio description to help you get the full experience when watching TV. To learn more about AD, check out our guide to Audio description on Sky.

You can also increase the contrast on your Sky Q box to make things easier:

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility, then High contrast and change the setting from Off to On.
  3. Press Dismiss to return to live TV.

For additional support, you can also get a Sky Q Accessibility remote which has:

  • Raised contour buttons with additional tactile points
  • Larger and bolder button graphics
  • High visibility buttons

Support for d/Deaf or hard of hearing people

Many shows and movies on Sky offer sign language or subtitles, to help you get the full experience when watching TV. Check out our guides to subtitles and signed programming for more information.

Using an induction loop

Induction loop systems help people who are deaf or hard of hearing pick up sounds more clearly, by reducing background noise. The induction loop can be connected to the audio out socket on the customer's TV or Set top box.

Sky Q doesn't have any analogue audio outputs so it won't be possible to connect the induction loop to your Sky Q box if it was previously connected to the audio out socket (jack) on a Sky+ / Sky+HD box.

You may however be able to connect to the audio output of your TV set instead, through a SCART or audio jack connection.

Digital induction loops models are also available that can connect to the digital optical out socket.

Support for people with arthritis or other motor impairments

As well as features for blind or visually impaired people, the Sky Q Accessibility remote also has a textured, easy-grip design which can be helpful for people with arthritis or other motor impairments.
