Frequently asked questions More FAQs

  • Why is Sky 3D changing?

From June we will launch an on demand only service for Sky 3D. Sky 3D will continue to offer a great 3D viewing experience with movie blockbusters and award-winning documentaries.

The changes to 3D are all part of the work we’re doing to meet customers’ growing demand for TV that’s ready to watch whenever they are. Other recent enhancements that will benefit our connected customers include putting On Demand front and centre on the Sky+ TV Guide, adding more of the very best Box Sets such as Prison Break and Game of Thrones, and securing rights to even more shows and sport.

The price of your Sky TV package will not be affected by this.

Sky 3D programmes can be found in the respective areas of On Demand - Sky Box Sets, Sky Movies and Sky Store – all of which can be found on the Sky+ TV Homepage. Each section will contain a new “3D” area within the menu. Customers will find over 60 shows and movies available On Demand in 3D.

You will continue to have access to 3D TV in line with your current subscription- e.g. Sky Movies or The Family Bundle. The only change required is that a customer needs to be connected to Sky’s On Demand service via their Internet connection.

  • What do I need to do to watch Sky 3D On Demand?

    1. Ensure you are connected to on demand
    2. Access the on demand section of your TV
    3. Select the type of entertainment you would like to watch (box sets, movies or Sky Store movies)
    4. Select the respective area of on demand ( Sky Box Sets, Sky Movies and Sky Store)
    5. Choose which box set/ movie you’d like to watch in 3D
    6. Once downloaded this content will be available to play within your planner
    7. Ensure you are wearing your 3D glasses

  • What's the difference between Active & Passive 3D?

There are two ways to watch 3D TV - Active and Passive. Active and Passive 3D refers to both the type of glasses you have to wear to watch 3D, and the 3D ready TV you are using.

Active glasses contain LCD lenses that alternately 'block out' each eye depending on whether the left or right image is being displayed on the screen. They are referred to as active because they require a battery to operate the LCD lenses.

Passive glasses do not require any power to operate them. They use polarisation to separate out the left and right image, then work with polarised TVs that deliver two images to the viewer. The TVs have a filter integrated into the screen, and when switched into 3D mode, the filter orientates the light emitting from the screen differently for the left and right image. Passive is the type of technology you may have seen in the cinema.

  • How can I watch Sky 3D at home?

If you are an existing HD customer with a 3D TV you can activate Sky 3D now.

If you are not an HD customer you can upgrade your viewing bundle so that you are eligible to receive Sky 3D.

If you are not a Sky TV customer, join Sky with the Family Bundle to activate Sky 3D.

  • Can I watch 3D in another room with Sky Multiscreen?

Yes. If the box in the second room is a Sky+HD and you are an HD or Family Bundle subscriber, you will be able to watch Sky 3D on a 3D ready TV in another room with Sky Multiscreen.

If you are not an HD subsciber and you want to watch 3D TV in more than one room, you will need the following:

To watch entertainment shows in 3D you will need:

    The Family Bundle

Sky+HD box or Sky+HD 2TB box for the second room you want to watch Sky 3D in.

A Multiscreen subscription for each box you have in your home.

To watch Sky Movies in 3D you will need:
