Using your Sky Q TV apps

To find out more about the Sky Q TV apps, watch our help video or read the information below. 

  • Using the YouTube app

    To open

    1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Online Video.
    2. Select Apps, then YouTube.

    Scroll left to access the main menu, or simply select a video to play. You can sign into your YouTube account by selecting Sign In where you’ll be given a web address and code. On another device, enter the web address and code provided. Sign in to your account if prompted. When you return to your box, you’ll be signed into YouTube until you Sign out.

    Use the on screen buttons to play, pause, rewind or fast forward videos. Press Dismiss to stop the video.

    To exit

    Press Home on your Sky Q remote to exit the app.

    Please note: You won't be able to play paid for content when signed in on your Sky Q box.

    You can also play YouTube from your device. Make sure it’s connected to your home broadband then:

    1. Open YouTube on your device and select the Chromecast icon (shown below) and select your box.
    2. Select a video to play and it’ll appear on your TV.

  • Using the Vevo app

    With the Vevo app you can watch some of the latest music videos, live performances and artist interviews on demand.

    To open

    1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Online Video.
    2. Select Apps, then choose Vevo.
    3. To exit the app when you’re finished, press Home on your Sky Q remote

    You can watch Vevo TV's music channels, or select Menu to browse and search videos by genre, artist and track name.

    You'll also be able to create and access your own playlists if you sign in.

  • Using the My Photos app

    Facebook photos and videos

    Share Facebook photos and videos with friends and family on the big screen with the My Photos app on Sky Q. 

    Watch out help video or follow the guide below to find out how.

    1. Make sure you’re connected to your home broadband then go to the My Photos website.
    2. Select the box you want to view your photos or videos on.
      If you only have one box, it'll be chosen automatically. If no box is listed, you'll need to pairing code to connect to your box. To find your box's code, press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote, select the My Photos app and scroll down to find the code.
    3. Once connected, select Set up your Facebook photos to your TV in your browser, sign in to Facebook and allow permissions if prompted.
    4. The My Photos app will open on your TV. Select your profile and an album to view.

    Your Facebook profile will stay on your Sky Q box until you log out. To log out, go to the My Photos app and select your profile. Select Manage, then Log out of Facebook.

    Please note: You can add up to five Facebook accounts to the My Photos app.

    PC photos

    Find out how to view your PC photos by watching our help video or following the guide below.

    Make sure you’re connected to your home broadband then go to the My Photos website.

    1. Select which box you want to view your photos on. If you only have one box, it'll be chosen automatically. If no box is listed, you'll need to enter a pairing code to connect to your box. To find your box's code, press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote, select the My Photos app and scroll down to find the code.
    2. Choose Select photos in your browser and select photos to view them on your TV screen. Press Play on your browser or Play/pause on your Sky Q remote to start a slideshow.

    Tablet or mobile photos

    Find out how to view your Tablet or mobile photos, by watching our help video or following the guide below.

    First, make sure you're connected to your home broadband. Then:

    1. From Home on the Sky Q app, select My Photos. Select OK if prompted.
    2. Choose any album, then select any photo to see it on your TV.
    3. To start a slideshow, tap Select, then select the pictures you want to see and choose Show on TV.

    Please note: Photos stored on your tablet can't be viewed on Sky Q Mini boxes.

  • Using the Sky News app

    With the Sky News app you can catch up with the latest news and browse a range of videos on demand.

    To open

    Press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote and select Sky News.

    Select a category, then select the story you want to watch in full screen.

    To exit

    Scroll left to go back a page, and press Dismiss to exit the app. If you're watching a video, press Dismiss twice to exit.

  • Using the Sky Sports News HQ app

    With the Sky Sports News HQ app, keep up to date with the latest sports results and news while still watching TV.

    To open

    Press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote and select Sky Sports News HQ.

    Browse to see real-time scores, tables, fixtures and video clips for a range of sports. With split screen view, you can watch two live or highlight clips beside each other. Split screen view allows you to watch video clips alongside a live channel.

    Audio will play from the clip selected. You can return audio to the main channel by pausing the video clip. If you decide you want to watch the video clip fullscreen, simply press select again and it’ll stretch to full screen.

    You can customise the app by pinning your favourite football team's latest news, scores and videos directly to the homepage or in the My Team menu.

    Please note: Split screen functionality is available on Sky Q 1TB and 2TB boxes.

    To exit

    Scroll left to go back a page, and press Dismiss to exit the app. If you're watching a video, press Dismiss twice to go back to your TV show.

  • Using the Weather app

    With the Weather app, you can see the weather forecast for up to six different locations, including international destinations, while still watching TV.

    To open

    Press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote and select Weather. Choose a location to see a more detailed breakdown of the weather conditions.

    You can add up to six locations and remove any that you no longer want to see. You can also choose a default location to appear first in the Sidebar.

    To exit

    Press Dismiss to exit the app. If you're in the extended detailed view of the app, press Dismiss twice to exit. 

  • Apps are missing or not working

     If any of these aren't showing or won't open, check your Sky Q box is connected to the internet:

    1. Select Home on your Sky Q remote, then Settings, followed by Setup.
    2. Select Network - this will tell you if you're connected to your broadband.

    If you're not connected, follow the instructions on screen to connect.

    Once you're connected, wait a few minutes then press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote to check your apps.

    If that hasn’t worked, refresh your apps:

    1. Press the Home button on your Sky Q remote, highlight Settings, then press 0,0,1 and Select.
    2. Select Apps followed by Refresh Apps. Your apps will then refresh. 
    3. Return to your normal viewing and after a few minutes, press the Sidebar button on your Sky Q remote to check your apps. 

    Please note: It can take up to 24 hours for all apps to appear.

  • Access has been blocked. To change this setting, go to Settings > Parental > Apps & videos.

    If you see this message, the app you're trying to access has been blocked by parental settings.

    To unblock:

    1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, select Settings and then Parental.
    2. Enter your Sky TV PIN.
    3. Select Apps & videos, choose the relevant app and select Off to allow access.

    Remember to reactivate these settings if you want to keep the app restricted from younger viewers.
