Your data usage
We’ll also text you when you’ve used 80% and 100% of your monthly data allowance.
Data roaming outside of Europe (the EU) isn’t included in your plan, so roaming charges apply. To keep an eye on your data usage while you’re away, check the ‘View itemised bill’ section of your Sky Mobile bill.
What's using up my data?
Things that use mobile data can include:
- Streaming or downloading videos, including films and TV shows
- High quality streaming over 4G or 5G
- Downloading or listening to music
- Sending or receiving emails with large attachments
- Browsing the internet and some apps, including social media websites and apps
If you're a Sky TV customer with Sky Mobile, you can watch Sky TV and use any Sky app on the go without using your data. Please note: Streaming or downloading videos from other apps (not Sky apps) will still use data. Streaming adverts before or during on demand content, and watching ads within some Sky apps might use your data allowance. See the 'Sky TV subscription' section of the Watch article for more information.
Check what’s using the most data
On your device, go to device support and search for ‘check mobile data usage (internet)’ and follow the instructions.
Tips to help you save data
Use Wi-Fi where possible.
Turn off mobile data when you’re out and about or roaming outside the EU.
Avoid streaming videos or music over 3G/4G and download over Wi-Fi where possible. But remember, if you've got Sky TV and Sky Mobile, you can watch Sky on the go without using your data plan.
Close any apps/put them to sleep after you’ve used them.
If you have an iPhone, turn off Wi-Fi Assist. Wi-Fi Assist is on by default and automatically switches to data when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection. Go to Settings > Mobile data > Wi-Fi Assist.
