Fixing or setting up surround sound

Set up surround sound

  1. Connect your Sky Q box to a compatible speaker system or a TV with built-in surround sound.
  2. Select the correct audio channel on your speaker system.

If you need to fix a problem with surround sound:

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, then select Settings followed by System info.
  2. Take note of the Hardware Version and Software Version.
  3. Go to How to check which Sky box you have to make sure the Software Version listed in the table matches the version on your Sky Q box.

If they match, your box is already on the correct software and doesn't need updating. If they don't match, you'll need to complete a software download.

If you're using an Optical cable and AD (Audio Description) is turned on, surround sound won't work. To turn AD off:

  1. Whilst watching TV, press ? on your Sky Q remote.
  2. Select AD and change the setting to Off.

If you're using a Sky Accessibility remote, you can press AD and change the setting to Off.

You can also turn AD off from the Accessibility menu in Settings.

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, select Settings, and then Setup.
  2. Select Audio Visual, then Digital audio output HDMI and set it to Normal.

If the sound is working normally, then there is a problem with your sound system and you should contact the manufacturer for further help.

If the normal sound isn't working, follow our help steps for No sound on your Sky Q box.
