Using Voice Control and Sky Go to watch Sky Q
Sky Q and Voice Control
Finding what to watch on telly when you’re blind or visually impaired can be difficult, but with Sky Q Voice Control and the Sky Go app, it’s now much easier.
With Voice Control, you can:
- Change the channel.
- Navigate through your settings.
- Turn audio description on and off.
- Play recordings.
- Play, pause, rewind or fast forward shows, and more.
Simply press and hold the voice button on the front or side of your Sky Q remote and speak your command into the microphone. Read our `Using text search and voice control on your Sky Q box guide for more info and the full list of Voice Commands.
The Sky Go app for iOS, iPad OS and Android works with VoiceOver and TalkBack screen-readers.
You can watch live TV, recordings and downloads, both at home and out and about, and use the app with VoiceOver or TalkBack to help you navigate your Sky Q box using Voice Control.

The Home Screen
The app will generally open to the home screen, and you can always return to it by selecting the Home tab at the bottom of the screen. Here, you will find a range of shows highlighted which may interest you.
At the top, you’ll find some top highlights in the Featured Programmes adjustable menu.
Below this, you’ll find a series of horizontal lists organised by category, such as Family Favourites or Comedy Crackers. Simply select a show to open the programme details. When you open a programmes details, one episode will be featured at the top of the screen, where you will find a Play and Download button.
Below this, there is a button to select the series number, followed by a list of all available episodes in the selected series.
Selecting Play will play the show on your device, while pressing Download will display a pop-up menu, allowing you to download to your device or to your Sky Q box. On smaller devices, you might need to select the episode details to find the Download button.
Navigating to and around the TV Guide
From the Home screen, the TV Guide tab is at the bottom. Select it to browse all your channels.
If you're using Sky Go out and about, there'll be two tabs at the top of the screen – Watch on iPhone/device and Record to Sky Box.
- Watch on iPhone will show you which channels you can watch on your device.
- Record to Sky Box will also show you channels you can watch on your device, plus any that aren’t available to watch on Sky Go.
Below these tabs (or at the top of the screen if you're using the app at home) there’s a pop-up menu where you can filter your channels by category, like All Channels, Movies, Entertainment or Sport.
Below this is the TV Guide itself, which has three columns:
- Furthest to the left is channel number and name. Slide your finger down the screen to move through the channels. Select the channel to bring up its full schedule as a list. From there, tap the Play or Record button (on the left) to watch or record the show or press the programme name (on the right) to bring up the programme information.
- In the middle is a Play button, showing what’s currently on air. Select it to watch that programme on Sky Go.
- The final column shows what’s coming up on the channel. Larger screens will show more listings, but you can always select the channel number and name to view the channel’s full schedule.
Browse all content
Select the Browse tab at the bottom of the screen to choose from a variety of categories and themes. Simply select the one you want, and the app will take you to a screen which works very much like the Home tab.
The Downloads tab is where you can find all the programmes which you have downloaded to your device. This is displayed as a list with two columns on smaller screens, and three columns on most larger screens. From here you can select the Play button to watch on your device, view the programme details, and Delete the show from your device.
To find the Delete button on smaller screens, first select the programme details to load another screen, and then select Delete.
You’ll need a Sky Q experience subscription to download shows to your device.
If you have Sky Q Multiscreen or Sky Q experience, you can browse the recordings from your Sky Q box on your device. Simply select the Recordings tab from the bottom of your screen to see your Sky Q recordings.
At the top of the screen you can filter your recordings by Most Recent, Continue, Sort by (to sort by Category or A-Z), Purchases, Rentals, Scheduled, and any shows that are available to Download to your device. Select a show to bring up the programme information, set or remove a series link, or delete the recording. Use Voice Control to watch any of these recordings on your TV, or watch in the app on your device if you prefer.

To browse your recordings on Sky Go, you need to be on the same WiFi network as your Sky Q box.
