Sound problems on Sky Q

No sound on your Sky Q Mini box

If you're experiencing sound loss on your Sky Q Mini box, there are a few things you can try to fix it.

  • Initial checks

    Check the volume

    1. Press the Volume up button on your Sky Q remote.
    2. Then press the Volume up button on your TV's remote or on the TV itself. If this works, there's a problem with your Sky Q remote. Go to Problems with your Sky Q remote.

    Try another channel

If the loss of sound is only affecting one channel, it's likely that the problem is with the broadcaster. Try again later.

    Check the digital audio output

This can occur if you've set your HDMI sound output set to Dolby Digital but your TV isn't compatible. To check:

    1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, select Settings, then Setup, followed by Audio visual.
    2. Select Digital audio output HDMI and make sure it's set to Normal.

    Check your cables

Check each end of your HDMI or AV cable to make sure they're securely connected to your Sky Q Mini box and TV.

    Check your Sky Q box

If you're having the same problem on your Sky Q box, go to No sound on your Sky Q box.

  • Try another HDMI socket on your TV

If your TV has more than one HDMI socket:

    1. Plug your Sky Q Mini box's HDMI cable into a different HDMI socket on your TV.
    2. Use the Input button on your Sky Q remote to select the new TV input.
  • Try a direct connection between your Sky Q Mini box and TV

If your Sky Q Mini box is connected to a speaker system or device other than your TV, try connecting your HDMI cable directly between your box and your TV.

If your sound is back to normal, there may be a problem with the device you've just disconnected. Contact the manufacturer for advice.

  • Restart your Sky Q Mini box

    1. Switch your Sky Q Mini box off at the mains.
    2. Check that both ends of all cables are securely connected.
    3. Switch your Sky Q Mini box back on at the mains.
    4. Wait for the onscreen instructions to disappear then press Home on your Sky Q remote.
