How to use Sky Yahoo Mail

You can sign in to Sky Yahoo Mail at any time by going to sky.com and selecting Email from the top menu bar.

Sign in to Sky Yahoo Mail

With your Sky Yahoo Mail account, you can compose and send emails, view email attachments, transfer your contacts between your mail accounts, create or rename folders and customise your calendar. For help on how to do this, please see the options below.

  • Composing and sending emails

    It's easy to send messages to individuals and groups with Sky Yahoo Mail.

    1. Sign in to Sky Yahoo Mail.
    2. Click Compose.
    3. Type one or more email addresses in the To field and optionally in the CC (carbon copy) and BCC (blind carbon copy) fields (you'll need to click on CC to open up these fields).
    4. Enter the subject of your emails in the Subject box.
    5. Enter the text of your message in the large area below the Subject box.
    6. Click Send at the bottom of your message.

    Notes

    • You don't need to separate addresses by commas or semicolons, just type one address after the other.
    • If necessary, open the CC (carbon copy) and BCC (blind carbon copy) fields by clicking the related links.
    • CC (carbon copy) lets you send an email to a number of email addresses for their information.
    • BCC (blind carbon copy) lets you send an email to a number of email addresses without the recipients knowing who it's been copied to.
    • It isn't possible to prioritise an email message.
    • By default, messages you send are saved in your Sent folder.

    To add attachments

    To add photos, attachments, GIFs and web links to your email message:

    1. Select Compose to open a new blank email.
    2. Select the + icon in the bottom right corner to open the compose assist panel.
    3. Find the item you wish to attach using the photo, attachment, GIF or web link buttons at the top of the panel, or use the search box to find specific items.
    4. Select the chosen item below to attach it to your email or drag and drop the selected item into the compose window.
    5. Select the arrow icon to close the compose assist panel. 

  • Adding, importing and exporting contacts

    Add contacts to your Sky Yahoo contacts list

    1. Sign in to Sky Yahoo Mail.
    2. Click the Contacts icon on the top-left hand side of the screen.
    3. Select the New Contact button in the upper left corner.
    4. Enter your contact's information.
    5. Select Save to add the contact.

    You can also add a contact by changing your settings to always add new addresses to your contacts list by following the steps below.

    Always automatically add new email addresses to your Sky Yahoo Contacts

    If you would like to automatically add every new address to your contact list that you send an email to, you’ll need to change your settings.

    1. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the window and select Settings.
    2. Select Writing email.
    3. Next to When sending messages:, check the box next to "Automatically add new recipients to my Contacts."
    4. Select Save.

    Import contacts from another mail program

    If you’ve been using Outlook, Hotmail or another email service and you want to import your contacts, please follow the steps below.

    1. From within Sky Yahoo Mail, select the Contacts icon on the top-left hand side of the screen.
    2. Click Import Contacts.
    3. Select the source for the import - a Google account, Facebook account or another service listed - then sign in with your username and password if prompted.
    4. Select Done or View Contacts.

    Please note: If you are selecting to import contacts from a desktop email program you will need to make sure that you can export your contacts in either a ".csv" or ".vcf" file format.

    Export your contacts

    1. From within Sky Yahoo Mail, select the Contacts icon on the top-left hand side of the screen.
    2. Click Actions and then select Export.
    3. Choose from the programs listed on the page and click Export Now button.

    Please note: Sky Yahoo Contacts does not export Facebook contacts, and the maximum number of contacts you can have in Yahoo Contacts is 5,000.

  • Email attachments

    You can preview your email attachments (image, PDF or Microsoft Office files) within Sky Yahoo Mail without the need to download them first.

    To view single attachments

    1. Open the email containing the attachment.
    2. Click the name of the attachment you want to view. This will launch a separate window displaying the attachment.
    3. To navigate through a multipage document, use the up and down arrows at the top of the window.
    4. You can zoom in and out using the plus and minus icons at the top of the page.
    5. To download the document, use the icon or link in the top left hand corner.
    6. Close the preview using the X in the top right hand corner.

    To view multiple attachments

    If your email contains multiple attachments you can click View all. You can navigate between documents using the left and right arrows.

  • Using folders

    You can move your emails into folders to keep your inbox tidy and make it easier to find them again later. Your folders are always accessible on the left side of Sky Yahoo Mail, making it simple to find and file your emails. You can only create a maximum of 491 folders in Sky Yahoo Mail.

    Create a new folder

    1. Sign in to Sky Yahoo Mail.

    2. Hover over Folders on the left side of the screen.

    3. Click the folder icon that appears to the right of Folders.

    4. Enter a name for the new folder.

    Please note: Folder names can only include letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens and underline (_) characters.

    5. Click OK.

    To move emails to your new folder, directly drag and drop an email into the folder, or select the email, click the Move drop-down menu above, and choose the folder.

    To create subfolders, right-click the folder name and select Create Subfolder. Subfolders can be moved from one parent folder to another. Just right-click the subfolder, select Move and choose the new parent folder from the list. All emails will stay within that folder.

    Rename a current folder

    1. Right-click (or CTRL+click on Mac) on a folder.
    2. Select Rename Folder.
    3. Type the new folder name, then press the Enter or Return key on your keyboard, or click elsewhere on your screen to apply your changes.

    Deleting a folder

    Before you can delete a folder, you will need to ensure it is empty.To do this, you can move emails that the folder contains to the Inbox or another folder, or delete them.

    1. Right-click (or CTRL+click on Mac) on a folder.
    2. Select Delete Folder.
    3. Select OK.

    Smart folders

    Smart View folders allow you to read messages that have been put into specific categories. The new categories are Unread, Starred, Important, People, Shopping and Finance.

    Your emails will filter into these folders automatically, but will also appear in your inbox with all other emails.

    You can create your own folder for a specific email address or search result. To do this select the Pin icon and a folder will automatically be created. All future emails or search criteria will filter into the new folder.

    Additional Information

    It's not currently possible to create folders within folders.

  • Setting up and customising your Calendar

    Creating new events

    You can quickly add a new event to your calendar by clicking on the date where you would like to enter it.

    How to create a new event from the Calendar Day, Week, Month, or Year view

    1. Sign in to Sky Yahoo Mail.
    2. Select the Calendar icon on the top-left hand side of the screen.
    3. Click on a day within the calendar. If you are already using Day view, you can skip this step.
    4. Select the starting time for your event, and if you want to set an ending time, keep the left mouse button pressed down and drag to the desired time.
    5. Type a title for the event in the Title box.
    6. Type a location in the Location box.
    7. Click Save when you have completed setting the event details.

    Please note: If you do not select a calendar, the first calendar in the menu list is automatically assigned.


    To add more details to the event

    1. Select Add More Details.
    2. When the new window opens, add the relevant details.
    3. Click Save when you have completed setting the event details.

    You can add more details to an event such as the location, notes, reminders, and invitations. For new events, you can add details by using the New Event window and for existing events use the Edit Event window.

    • Title: Type a short description of the event, 80 characters or less. This title will display in your calendar.
    • Start: Date and time the event begins.

    - If the event doesn't have a specific time or is for the entire day, check the All-Day checkbox.
    - All day events will appear at the top of your day view.
    - To make this a recurring event, see "Reminder," below.

    • End: Date and time the event ends.
    • Repeat: Set up repeat events from a single location.
    • Location: Type the location of the event. The location does not display when you send an invitation, use the "Notes" box if you want to send location information to an event invitee.
    • Invitees: Type event attendee email addresses in the To box.

    - One or more attendee email addresses can be added 
    - Separate multiple email addresses with a space, comma, or semi-colon.
    - Once you have added email addresses for attendees and saved, you can return later to view their RSVP information: Attending, Not Attending, Maybe, and Not Yet Replied.

    • Notes: Type more detail about the event. Information in the Notes box shows as the Message Information when you send an invitation, showing event information to your invitees.

    - Don't put anything in the Notes box that you would not want to share with all of your invitees.
    - The Notes box content does not display in the Calendar views (Day, Week, Month, or Year), but it    does display when you  rollover the event in the Event Summary.

    Reminder: Click to see options for specifying reminder times and the method of reminder delivery.

    - Delivery methods include: email or an instant message. You can also add a second reminder by clicking on the + sign.

    Type: Specify the type of event. Some of the event types include Invite, Work, School, Birthday, or just assign it a colour.

    How to create a new calendar

    You can organise your events into manageable groups using different calendars with unique names and colours. With separate calendars, you can see your events one at a time, a few at a time, or all at once.

    1. From within Sky Yahoo Mail, click the Calendar icon on the top-left hand side of the screen.
    2. Select Actions and then Create New Calendar.
    3. Type a name for the new calendar.
    4. Select a colour for the calendar.
    5. Select Save. The new calendar is added to your list of calendars.
