Problems finding the Sky Q app

  • In the App Store?

Check which device and operating system (iOS) you have.

The Sky Q app is available on:

    • All iPhones running iOS 8.1 and above.
    • All iPads with iOS 8.1+ (excludes iPad 1). We recommend 8.4 or above.

To check which Apple iOS you have, open your device's Settings menu, then select General, then About. Your iOS is listed under Version.

We continually review device support so as new devices and operating systems appear we may stop supporting some older versions. From time to time you may need to update the software on your device.

The Sky Q app isn't supported on jailbroken Apple devices.

If your device isn't supported, you may still be able to watch Sky TV on it with Sky Go. Check if your device is compatible in our Sky Go supported devices article.

  • In the Google Play Store?

Check which device and operating system (OS) you have.

The Sky Q app is available on:

    • All Android phones running 4.1 and above.
    • All Android tablets with OS 4.1+ (excludes Amazon Kindle Fire devices)

To check which Android OS you have, open your device's Settings menu, then select About device. Your OS is listed under Android version.

We continually review device support so as new devices and operating systems appear we may stop supporting some older versions. From time to time you may need to update the software on your device.

The Sky Q app isn't supported on rooted Android devices.

If your device isn't supported, you may still be able to watch Sky TV on it with Sky Go. Check if your device is compatible in our Sky Go supported devices article.

Getting connected

  • Connecting to your Sky Q box

First, make sure your device is connected to your home broadband, then:

    1. Open the Sky Q app on your device and it'll automatically search for your Sky Q box.
    2. When it finds it, you'll see the message: "We've found a Sky Q box".
    3. Tap Connect.

Once connected, you'll be able to watch live TV, recordings and on demand shows on your device, and use it to record to your box.

Please note: You'll need a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription to watch and download recordings from your Sky Q box on the Sky Q app.

  • Connecting to a different Sky Q box

You can connect the Sky Q app to someone else's Sky Q box and watch their channels, recordings and downloads:

    1. Make sure your device is connected to the same broadband network as the Sky Q box you want to connect to.
    2. Open the Sky Q app on your device and it'll automatically search for a Sky Q box.
    3. When it finds one, you'll see the message: "We've found a Sky Q box".
    4. Tap Connect.

Please note: When you connect to someone else's Sky Q box, you can't download any of their recorded shows on to your device. If you want to watch a show you've already downloaded from your own box you'll need to disconnect from their Sky Q box first.

Managing your devices

  • Registering a device

You can register up to four devices and manage them online.

Your device will be automatically registered the first time you sign into the app with your Sky iD. If you’re away from home, you’ll be asked to sign in with your Sky iD the first time you try to watch live TV, or an on demand show, or if you try to record or download a show to your box or device.

Each of your four registered devices can have any or all of the following apps; the Sky Q app, the Sky Kids app, the Sky Cinema app, the Sky Sports app and Sky Go.

You can watch shows from your Sky Q box on up to four devices  when you're at home, but only one at a time if you have a Sky Q 1TB box, or two at a time if you have the Sky Q 2TB box.

  • Removing a device

If you’ve already registered four devices, you’ll need to remove an existing one before adding a new one. You can do this online or in the My Sky app:

    1. Open the My Sky app and, if you haven’t already, sign in using your Sky iD details. If you’re new to the app, visit our My Sky app page to find out more.
    2. Select Manage account > TV > TV settings.
    3. Select Manage in the Sky Go devices tile.
    4. Select Remove this device on the device you would like to remove.

  • Copy protection and tracking

Second screen display is not permitted, for example through the use of Apple AirPlay, Miracast, HDMI/TV-Out and Chromecast.

Sky employs technologies such as digital rights management and copy protection to control the play back and copying of digital content provided via the Sky Q app.
