Credit and pre-sales checks - Sky Mobile
Each time you buy a SIM, phone or tablet from us (even if you've bought from us before), we'll carry out pre-sales checks.
When we run the checks, we use the most up-to-date information so results can vary depending on your current circumstances.
Buying a pay monthly device
A credit agreement is a type of loan that lets you spread out the total cost of a new device over several months.
We'll lend you the money for a device bought with Sky. You can then repay the loan in monthly instalments.
This is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Credit, affordability, fraud and identity checks
As part of your Sky Mobile order, we use information from a combination of sources to help run credit, affordability, fraud and identity checks.
We have an obligation as a responsible lender to make sure we offer credit agreements appropriately and these checks help us do that. We'll always ask for your permission before we carry out these checks. Without it we won’t be able to continue.
If you're applying for a pay monthly device, your order might be referred for further checks. If this happens, we'll let you know straight away. While we're running the checks, please be aware that prices and offers are subject to change.
Once we've run a credit check for your order, you'll be able to see that we've left a mark on your credit file. We’ll only run one credit check per order.
When you take a credit agreement with us other lenders might also see that a Telecommunications company has performed a credit search. Other lenders might take this into account when making their own decisions about offering credit.
As part of the checks, we’ll ask you to confirm that you can afford the monthly loan repayments for the full length of your credit agreement. If you can’t, we’ll cancel your order. If you want, you can choose a different phone, tablet or plan to suit your budget, or else your order will stay cancelled. Any upfront payments you made when you ordered will be refunded to your original payment method within 14 days.
Not eligible for a credit agreement?
You could be declined a credit agreement for a number of different reasons.
While you can talk to us about this, we won't be able to give you the exact reason why your application for a credit agreement was declined. If you’re concerned, speaking with a Credit Reference Agency might help. Equifax are our chosen Credit Reference Agency.
Sky credit builder might help. It lets you take a SIM only plan to build up a payment history with us over six months, and this is taken into consideration if you re-apply to buy a phone with a credit agreement. It's not currently available for tablets.
