Check your microfilters

Microfilters allow you to use your broadband and any devices that use your phone line, such as your telephone or Sky box, at the same time. They should be connected to the master socket, which is usually located where the telephone line comes into your home, as well as any other phone socket you use.

Without correctly installing them around your home, you may have:

  • Slow internet speed
  • Unreliable or intermittent internet connection
  • Noise or interference on the line when making telephone calls

What does a microfilter look like?

What does a pre-filtered master phone socket look like?

Please note: If you have a pre-filtered master phone socket with separate ports for your phone and Sky Hub, you don't need to use a microfilter. Please don't connect your Sky Hub to any other phone socket in your home.

Make sure your microfilters are set up correctly on every socket

Depending on the Sky Hub you have, there may be one larger microfilter that’s marked Master Microfilter. This should connect to your master phone socket. If all of your microfilters are the same, any of them can be connected to your master socket.

Every phone socket that you use must have a microfilter connected directly to it, then every device must be connected to that microfilter.

  • If you have a Sky Master Microfilter

    1. Plug your master microfilter into your master phone socket.
    2. Plug the purple end of your grey DSL cable into the purple port on the master microfilter. It's marked Sky Hub.

Remember, if you have a pre-filtered master phone socket, you don't need to use a microfilter.

    • Plug your phone line or splitter into the master microfilter's other port, which is marked Phone.

  • If you have standard Sky microfilters

    1. Plug your microfilter into your master phone socket.
    2. Plug the grey DSL cable into the microfilter port marked Sky Hub.

Remember, if you have a pre-filtered master phone socket, you don't need to use a microfilter.

    • Plug your phone line or splitter into the master microfilter's other port, which is marked Sky Box/Phone or just Phone.

You'll need to use a microfilter on any other phone socket in your home into which you've plugged a phone or other device. Setup is the same, but your router only needs to be plugged into the microfilter on your master socket.
