Drama starring Olympia Dukakis as the proud matriarch of an Italian-American family living in Hoboken, New Jersey. With Joe Penny, Philip Bosco.
Italian-Americans are favourite subjects of film-makers, and this TV movie gives the excellent Olympia Dukakis a splendid opportunity to shine as Rose, who, after the death of her husband, becomes the head of the family. The story spans three generations, as the family faces the changes brought about by the death and struggles to turn their restaurant business back into profit. You are right to expect a sentimental tale here, but it's a heart-warming one, and Dukakis is a joy to watch. And there's even a fleeting appearance by Frank Sinatra, who strangely starred in the 1954 film of the same name.
