Swashbuckling adventure based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale, starring Jack Palance and Patrick Bergin. With Kevin Zegers.
Author Robert Louis Stevenson would not be happy with this umpteenth version of his classic swashbuckling novel. The plot diverges considerably from his work, but gains nothing from this. Why is Jack Palance, so memorable in City Slickers, wasting his time as Long John Silver here? And dragging his son Cody in, too (as Blind Pew)? Shot on the Isle of Man (hardly one's idea of a tropical island), this film plays fast and loose with the characters, and the ending, to no good purpose. Avoid if possible.
