Review

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau star in this biting satirical comedy, written and directed by Billy Wilder. Lemmon is a TV cameraman injured while filming a football game. Matthau, his brother-in-law, is convinced that, if Lemmon exaggerates the injury, he can sue the TV company for $1million . Somewhat unwillingly, Lemmon goes along with the idea. The pace is fast and Wilder's razor-sharp dialogue and storyline digs at the American pursuit of money. Matthau, being grasping and amoral, is the more interesting character; indeed he won an Oscar for his dynamic performance. As Lemmon, a fine physical comic, spends much of his time in a wheelchair, he's rather overshadowed by his old sparring partner. British title: Meet Whiplash Willie.
