Synopsis

Michael Almereyda writes and directs this thoughtful and affecting sci-fi drama, effectively toying with ideas of memory, mortality and loss. It's been adapted from Jordan Harrison's 2015 Pulitzer-nominated play and sees the brilliant Lois Smith reprise her original stage role as the titular Marjorie - an elderly, eighty-something woman who was once a celebrated violinist and now suffers from dementia. She shares her attractive Long Island beach house with daughter Tess (Geena Davis), son-in-law Jon (Tim Robbins) and - somewhat less conventionally - an ethereal hologram, or "prime," of her late husband, appearing exactly as he did in his handsome 40s and played with haunting detachment by Jon Hamm.
