Remake of the classic Western, starring Tom Skerritt. A sheriff gets news that the murderous criminal he sent to jail years earlier is heading into town to seek revenge. With Susanna Thompson.
Director Rod Hardy, unwisely perhaps, remakes the classic Western for cable TV. The underrated Tom Skerritt takes the Gary Cooper role of the sheriff, left to face the bad guys by the townsfolk he has so faithfully served. Michael Madsen is excellent as chief villain Frank Miller. The story hasn't been tinkered with, the performances are good and the climactic gun battle is well staged - but it remains in the shadow of a much better film. Carl Foreman co-writes the teleplay, based on his 1952 script.
