Ridley Scott's futuristic thriller, starring Harrison Ford as the bounty hunter in pursuit of five highly dangerous 'replicants'. With Rutger Hauer.
Edward James Olmos
A visually stunning and hugely entertaining cult sci-fi movie that has become the blueprint for post-modern film worlds. . It offers a heady mix of 1940s retro and futuristic style, and Harrison Ford gives one of his best performances as the central character, an embittered gumshoe. Based on cult Sixties writer Philip K Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, this detective story is set in the Los Angeles of 2019, in the constant rain and neon night-time. Deckard (Ford) is forced out of retirement to hunt down five renegade replicants (androids) led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), who have escaped from an off-world colony, and returned to Earth to search for the meaning of life. But things become complicated when Deckard meets and falls in love with Rachel (Sean Young), a woman who may or may not be a replicant herself. Vangelis' haunting score offers a beautiful accompaniment to director Ridley Scott breathtaking, but chilling vision of tomorrow.
