Veteran Walter Pidgeon stars as a grizzled dog lover who takes on an orphan boy to exercise his prize Irish setter. Unsurprisingly, the lad forms a special bond with his new best friend. Charming Disney adventure set in Canada.
The Disney organisation made several profitable forays into Canada in the Fifties and Sixties, and the beauty of the countryside considerably enhances this story of an orphan boy who becomes best friends with an Irish setter belonging to his employer.
The latter is played with gruff authority by Walter Pidgeon, the relationship between the boy and the dog is uncloyingly charming and the film is full of character cameos from a talented French-Canadian cast.
The dog, as you might expect, is superb and steals the show.
