Comedy drama starring Stanley Tucci, Tony Shalhoub, Isabella Rossellini, Minnie Driver and Ian Holm. Two immigrant Italian brothers plan a lavish banquet to promote their struggling new restaurant in New Jersey.
Food, glorious food is at the centre of this gentle tale of Italian immigrants in Fifties America, starring Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub. Brothers Primo (Shalhoub) and Secondo (Tucci) have set up a restaurant in New Jersey, but are struggling. While Primo cooks perfect risotto (which is lost on the average American client who wants meatballs with everything), Secondo enlists the help of their shady restaurateur rival Pascal (Ian Holm) to get the punters in: they plan a 'big night' at the restaurant complete with an expected celebrity. But life is never that straightforward... Tucci, Shalhoub, Minnie Driver and Isabella Rossellini turn in pleasing performances, with Holm grabbing his chance to do a flashy number as Pascal. There's romance, an amazing (if rather long) dinner party and a bitter-sweet end to this low-key, old world-new world story.
