Robert Zemeckis' rip-roaring time-travel fantasy stars Michael J Fox as Marty McFly, a mild-mannered teenager accidentally zapped back to 1955 after helping eccentric inventor Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) fine-tune his time machine. As if returning to 1985 wasn't going to be tricky enough, Marty's arrival complicates things between his teenaged mum and dad. And if they don't get together, he's never going to exist! Terrific performances, Oscar-winning special effects and a whip-smart script make this a crowd-pleasing classic whatever decade you're in.
Michael J Fox
The young Michael J Fox travels from 1985 back to 1955 in a time machine made from a DeLorean car and, while in the past, accidentally stops his parents from meeting and falling in love - with dire consequences for his own future.
How Fox patches up the history he has changed is shown in complex but thoroughly entertaining fashion by director Zemeckis (director of all three 'Future' films), and the year 1955 is re-created with nostalgia and humour.
Christopher Lloyd stands out with an exceptionally zany performance as Dr Emmett Brown, the eccentric inventor of the DeLorean time machine, in an ingenious and charming time-travel jaunt.
