Flamboyant swashbuckler starring Errol Flynn as a Royal Navy officer who must infiltrate and take control of a pirate fortress on Madagascar. Skulduggery and blazing romance ensue as Flynn tries to tame the island's fearless Corsair queen (Maureen O'Hara) while crossing swords with her right-hand cutthroat, Anthony Quinn. As historically convincing as The Flintstones, but equally colourful fun.
Dashing Errol Flynn stars in this medium-budget high adventure on the equally high seas as a naval officer working undercover to infiltrate a pirate stronghold.
Anthony Quinn plays the very hissable principal baddie while Maureen O'Hara swashes a fair buckle as the lady pirate who gets the hots for Errol.
Although approaching his mid forties, Flynn was still every inch the adventure hero and indeed still insisted on doing most of his own stunt work, even if, acting-wise, he (and most of the cast) seems to be going through the motions.
This yarn may not be even close to the standards set by The Adventures of Robin Hood or The Sea Hawk, but it's still fun stuff, rattled along in furious style by director George Sherman.
