REMEMBER THE TITANS (2000)
“Tonight we've got Hayfield. Like all the other schools in this conference, they're all white. They don't have to worry about race. We do. let me tell you something: you don't let anyone come between us. Nothing tears us apart. In Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well that football field out there, that's our universe. Let's rule it like titans.”
Set in 1971 Virginia, Denzel Washington stars as football coach Henry Boone in this prejudice tackling true story. Denzel’s coach has to overcome racism from all fronts, even from inside of his own team, as he tries to bond his boys together in search of the perfect season. It’s a heart thumping drama that shines a spotlight onto the social issues of racism and prejudice through the prism of the adrenalin fuelled action of American football. But don’t worry if you don’t know the rules of the game. The directors inserted a handy trick using music editing so that the uninitiated would know what’s going on. If the Titans are going well the music changes to upbeat rock, if they don’t the soundtrack is replaced with an altogether more sombre tone.
