Hollywood star Denzel Washington has revealed he is being guided by a guardian angel.

The Oscar-winning star had an encounter with the celestial being when he was a little boy.

"When I was a young child I saw an angel," he said.

"It looked like my sister but then I saw wings. It was as real as you are in front of me now.

"I walked over to the door and opened it so some light came in the room. Then it faded away.

"I asked my mother about it and she said, 'it's probably your guardian angel'.

"Ever since then I have always felt protected."

The Hollywood actor is in London promoting two films - thriller Man On Fire and a remake of The Manchurian Candidate.

His next project may be a romantic comedy opposite fellow Oscar winner Halle Berry, he revealed.
