Tom Cruise's new movie Collateral has topped the US box office over the weekend.    

The movie raked in more than £13m despite questions over how well audiences would take to the former Top Gun playing a bad guy.

Cruise plays a killer who uses a taxi driver, played by Jamie Foxx, as an unwitting accomplice.    

It has proved an immediate hit, knocking horror flick The Village off the top spot in the US.    

The Bourne Supremacy, featuring Matt Damon as an assassin who has lost his memory, dropped to third place.
