Titanic star Kate Winslet said she wept as she watched a TV show in which a fan had radical plastic surgery to look like her.

The MTV show I Want A Famous Face followed the girl, named only as Jeanette, as she had breast implants and a tummy tuck in a bid to have a body like her actress idol.

Winslet said she felt "duty bound" to watch the show after she heard about it, but said it reduced her to tears, the Sun reports.

"I could not believe this girl was putting herself through this because she wanted to look like what she thought I looked like," she said.

"She had slabs of her stomach taken out. What is going on?"

Winslet has admitted battling with her weight and said a lot of magazine pictures taken of her had been airbrushed to make her appear thinner.

She said: "This girl had collected magazine covers with me on the front. I thought 'I don't look like that. That's a digitally altered image'".
