Pop star Britney Spears said she wed a childhood friend in Las Vegas because she "wanted to see what it was like".

"I was with a friend that I love dearly and I wanted to do something wild and crazy and I wanted to get married," she said.

Spears, 22, married Jason Allen Alexander in early January after spending the New Year partying with him in Sin City.

They were childhood friends from her home state of Louisiana.

She told Entertainment Tonight that alcohol had nothing to do with the quickie marriage.

She said: "I really wanted to see what it was like to be married. So that's why I did it."

The wedding was annulled about 50 hours after they exchanged vows.

Spears said the media "blew it way out of proportion".

But she added: "I want to think a little more about what I do from now on."

During the interview she also confirmed recent reports that she would like to appear alongside Pierce Brosnan as the next Bond Girl.
