Tony Blair has warned Iran to stop supporting terrorism and abide by the rules over nuclear weapons.

The Prime Minister told Sky News life could become "a lot more difficult" for Iran, if it continued to defy the international community.

Iran has been accused of providing rebels in Iraq with devices that were used to attack British troops.

There is also international concern over its alleged ambitions to build a nuclear arsenal.

Mr Blair said Tehran must allow Iraq to develop in the way its people wanted.

The Prime Minister said: "Iran has to realise that there is the possibility of having a different relationship with the western world but only on the basis of certain, very clear things.

"If they continue ... to really defy proper rules of behaviour in the international community, then life will become a lot more difficult."

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has said military action against Iran was "inconceivable".

Mr Blair said: "People are asking 'are we about to go and invade Iran?' It is important that fear is laid to rest.

"Nobody is talking about that, nobody is planning for it, nobody is wanting to do it."

But he added: "You don't ever take any option off the table."
