Detectives have named the murdered boy whose dismembered remains were recovered in three separate locations.
Adam Morrell, 14, of Loughborough, is thought to have died some time between last Thursday and Sunday.
Adam: appeal for information
Four people have been arrested and are being questioned by officers in separate police stations around Leicestershire.
The teenager's arm was found wrapped in a black bin liner in the Grand Union Canal, in Loughborough, on Sunday.
His legs were then discovered on Monday in the town's Alan Moss Road.
Another body part was recovered on Tuesday hidden in a plastic bag close to playing fields on Rosebery Street.
A bag of clothes is believed to have been found the following day in the grounds of a disused sock factory nearby.
Detective Superintendent Bob Small said: "Adam was well-known in the Loughborough area and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw him between Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon."
Three men aged 18, 19 and 26, and a 15-year-old girl are helping police with their inquiries.
Despite a post-mortem, the cause of Adam's death has not been revealed and there has been no statement from his family.
