The grunge look came and went but still some stars are insistent on disguising themselves under a mop of hair.
Pretty twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are two perfect examples - frequently snapped out and about with their tresses in a tangle.
They've been famous since they were about seven, but still the acting siblings don't seem to have got to grips with the benefits of a hairbrush.
Even at glitzy red carpet events they often don't seem to worry too much about their locks - with Mary-Kate being the scruffier of the two.
Perhaps growing up in the spotlight has meant that the sisters are just frankly sick of being on show 24/7.
But with their tiny frames, stunning faces and showbiz shades, even when it looks like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards and are dressed in oversized blankets they still attract the snappers.
