But it seems he's also been a very dark horse when it comes to his love life.

Ladykind has been basking in the vain hope that any one of us could be the future Mrs Clooney, since George's on/off relationship with Brit TV presenter Lisa Snowdon fizzled out three months ago.

But we've learnt the Ocean's Twelve smoulderer - who has previously dated Renee Zellweger and Krista Allen - has been far from single and eligible for a little while now.

Spies at America's Star magazine say the star, who spends much of the year living at his home Laglio in Italy's Lake District, is romancing Italian heiress Gianna Elvira Cantatore, who he met through friends.

"He met her over dinner at a hotel near his villa in Lake Como," the insider told Star.

"Gianna had a bouquet of white daisies delivered to him the next day. He has even met her family."
