Britney's Shock Treat

Gone are the days of people getting married for love... well, in the case of Britney's first attempt at nuptials in January 2004 there was clearly no romance whatsoever.

The pop singing sometime actress has revealed an altogether different reason for her 55 hour Las Vegas marriage to childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander.

She wanted to "shock the s**t" out of her parents.

The 23-year-old star told Allure magazine: "I think that really kind of was a desperate cry to my family.

"I kind of feel it brought my family together, and that was something that needed to happen."

"I had felt lost for so long and my mom was getting my sister ready for showbusiness, and I'm on the road, just running around in Germany with my head cut off and not knowing what the hell's going on."

"I didn't need some counsellor. I needed my mom, and I needed my dad."

After achieving the necessary result, Britney quickly got her marriage annulled - with the petition saying:

"Plaintiff Spears lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage."

Britney then went on to fall in love, get engaged and then marrying dancer Kevin Federline in September 2004.
