Where are you switching from?
| Switching from BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet, O2 | Switching from Virgin Media |
|---|---|
| Our Switch Squad will talk to your provider so you don't have to. | We can arrange the installation of a Sky phone line if you need one, or you can switch on an inactive line if you already have one. |
| About 2 weeks after you place your order, your broadband will switch from your current provider to Sky. | If you need an engineer we'll book an appointment for you or we will switch on your line remotely if we can. Plus, look out for a text message reminder about your appointment a couple of days before. |
| You'll be without broadband for a matter of minutes while you switch over to Sky. | Once your Sky Broadband is active you'll need to cancel your Virgin service (to make it easy you can download the Virgin Media cancellation letter here.) |

Frequently asked questions
-
What can I do about my current email?
You can switch your mail contacts and redirect your email when you join Sky Broadband. You can redirect all of your current emails using Sky Email Fetcher and Sky Email's Mail Switcher makes moving to a new email account easy.
More about redirecting emails -
Can I get Sky Broadband Unlimited in my area?
If you have a BT-compatible phone line, enter your BT or Sky Talk telephone number on our Landline Checker.
If you don't have a BT-compatible phone line (if, for example, you are currently using Virgin or another cable service), enter your postcode in our online Postcode Checker to find out if you're within our broadband network area. -
How long will it take for my line to go active?
Once you have ordered Sky Broadband it will normally take up to 15 days for your broadband to go active. We'll send you a letter (or, if you have provided us with an email address, an email) to welcome you to Sky Broadband, followed confirmation of your line activation date. Your Sky Hub will be delivered and you can get started.
-
Will the Sky Broadband usage policy affect me?
The usage policy won't affect the vast majority of customers, who are already on the most suitable package for their usage needs. It also won't affect customers on Sky Broadband Unlimited. For those who do use more than their allowance, we will send you an email letting you know when you have gone over your allowance. If you go over your allowance twice within a six month period, we'll move you to the next package up which will give you a higher usage allowance and possibly faster speeds (dependent on line quality and location). However you use the internet, you can be sure that in Sky network areas, we don't ever slow our broadband speed down.
Once you become a customer, we'll send the emails to your @sky.com address or the alternative email address you give us. -
When will I get my router?
Your router should arrive through the post 5 to 6 days before your broadband goes active. With it you’ll find a booklet which will take you through the install process step-by-step so you can install your Sky Broadband yourself at home.
-
Do I need to contact my current provider to cancel?
If you switch from BT, Talk Talk, O2 or PlusNet, you don’t have to contact your current provider. Just tell us that you want Sky Broadband and we’ll handle all of that for you (it’s actually easier if you don’t tell your current provider).
If you switch from Virgin, you should contact your provider. It would be better to arrange the cancellation of your Virgin service after your Sky Broadband and Talk is activated so as to make sure you don’t lose broadband connection.
-
How do I switch to Sky Talk?
Switching to Sky Talk is easy for Sky TV customers. If you currently have a BT phone line you can keep your number and handset, and we can help you move to Sky whatever your current situation.
It takes about two weeks to switch, but we’ll confirm exact times with you when you order. Once you've ordered, we will carry out the switch automatically, you don't need to do anything. -
Can I keep my existing number if I switch to Sky Talk?
If you are switching from a BT compatible line then you should be able to keep your number.
-
Will I get a new phone bill?
When you take Sky Line Rental with Sky Talk, both your line rental and calls will be added to your Sky TV bill.
-
Who will maintain and service my phone line?
If you have Sky Line Rental, your phone line will be serviced through Sky.
-
Do I need to contact my current provider for a MAC?
If you switch from BT, Talk Talk, O2 or PlusNet, you won’t need a MAC as in the vast majority of cases you are in a Sky Network area. However, customers outside of the Sky Network area will need one (we will tell you during the sales process if you do need one).
If you switch from Virgin, you won’t need a MAC to switch to Sky Broadband.
-
How long will I be without broadband?
If you switch from BT, Talk Talk, O2 or PlusNet, you would be without your broadband for only a matter of minutes while you switch.
If you switch from Virgin, you could keep your Virgin service until the day you join Sky Broadband.
