Sky TV box installation & set-up

  • When you join Sky TV, everything you need, including a discreet minidish, will be installed by one of our professional Sky engineers. You'll also be given a brief demo on getting the most out of your TV package. You can choose from a morning or afternoon timeslot to have your Sky TV installed; on average, you can get installed in only 6 days.

If you already have Sky and want to upgrade, all you need to do is select your new Sky box, pick a set-up date and our engineer will take care of the rest. Or, if you want to upgrade your viewing with even more entertainment, just add your selections and your channels should be updated within four hours.

Getting Sky TV in your home

  • Pick your Pack & box

Choose the Entertainment and Premium Packs you want to watch - starting at £20 a month. Next, choose how many Sky boxes you'd like. Remember, the Sky HD Multiroom box is free when you join Sky TV with Sky Multiroom.

  • Choose a set-up time

Book a date and time for a visit from a Sky engineer to set up your Sky box and dish. Our engineer will arrive during the booked time period but it may take longer than this time to install. Unless you need to rearrange set-up or your details are listed incorrectly you don't need to call us.

  • Your engineer visit

Your set-up will be fuss-free, completely professional and shouldn't take longer than an hour. Our engineer will tidy up afterwards, activate your viewing card for you and demonstrate how your new Sky equipment works.

Set-up options

  • If you're already a Sky TV customer, you may be offered a choice of set-up options when you buy your next Sky box. Your set-up options will appear when you proceed to checkout to buy your new box.

  • 1. Sky engineer set-up

A Sky engineer will visit your home on a date chosen by you, set-up your new Sky box, and give you a demonstration of how to use it.

  • 2. Self set-up

Your self set-up box will be sent to your by courier, with step-by-step instructions to guide you through the set-up process.

  • Sky Multiroom

If you're taking a Sky Multiroom subscription you may need some additional wiring, which the engineer will arrange when they come to set up your new box.

  •
  • Digital Switchover

After the digital switchover, analogue TVs will no longer receive a signal. But once you've got Sky TV, you've gone digital.

  • Popular bundles

With everything from the Sky+ Starter Bundle to Sky+HD with Sky World, our popular TV bundles have something to suit every lifestyle.

  • Sky+HD & Multiroom

With all our great Sky+HD offers, why not take Sky+HD and Sky Multiroom? Just upgrade to Sky+HD and relocate your existing box.

  • Can I choose when to get my Sky set up?

    • Yes - once you have chosen your combination of Sky products, proceed to the checkout to enter your name and address details - we'll also need a few details about your property to ensure that you get the right installation engineer to set up your equipment.

You'll then have the option to choose your preferred set-up date, and you may also be able to select an am or pm installation. We'll confirm your installation date via email once your order has been received and processed and the engineer will arrive during the time period selected, although the installation may continue past that time. You don't need to call us unless you need to rearrange or we have your details listed incorrectly.

How long does it take to get Sky set-up?

    • On average, you can get installed in only 6 days. A standard Sky TV set-up usually takes no longer than one hour.

Will I be charged if my set-up requires non-standard equipment?

    • Sky does not charge customers for extra set-up equipment such as T&K Brackets or pole mounts. Some sub-contractors operating in the Highlands and Islands region may charge extra for this equipment.

    What happens on the day?

    • When the engineer arrives they will have a discussion with you or your chosen representative to determine the best location for your satellite dish and the routing of all cables from your Sky box.

Some cabling will be run externally and, on all installs, holes will be drilled for cable access to your satellite dish. Also any internal cables must be tacked to the skirting board. Our ability to complete the installation is subject to Sky's Health and Safety Regulations.

After setting up your equipment, our engineer will activate your viewing card and demonstrate how Sky works. You'll be given a PIN number - at first, this will be the last four digits printed on the back of your viewing card. It's a good idea to change this to ensure that nobody will use your Sky Box and incur charges without your permission.

You'll be able to enjoy watching Sky TV on the same day as your set-up.

If your viewing card is not available at the time of your Sky set-up, please contact Sky Customer Services on 08442 414 141 when you receive your card and a Sky representative will talk you through how to activate it.

How should I prepare for my Sky TV set-up?

    • Your Sky engineer will take care of your set-up, but here are a few preparation pointers:

      • You must have a free electrical socket near your TV.
      • As a precaution, you might want to move furniture and ornaments away from the area where the Sky box will go.
      • Ensure that working plug-in telephone sockets which can accept incoming and outgoing calls are within 10 metres (30 feet) of your Sky box(es).
      • Make sure someone over 18 will be present and able to decide where the dish and cable will be installed.
      • For blocks of flats, listed building or conservation areas, planning permission may be necessary and should be obtained prior to your appointment.
      • Any internal cables will need to be tacked to the skirting board.
      • Let us know at the time of ordering your Sky TV package if there are any access or parking restrictions our engineer should be aware of.
