Switching to Sky Talk

There's another great reason to switch!

Switching from another phone provider


Sky Talk is exclusively available to Sky TV customers with a BT compatible line.

Use our availability checker to see if your phone line can be switched to Sky Talk Line Rental and which Sky Broadband products are available in your area, then follow the steps below.

1. First book and install Sky TV, if you don't already have it
Order Sky Broadband and Sky Talk at the same time. Your Sky equipment will need to be connected to an active phone line to enable you to access our interactive TV services.

2. Give us a call to order Sky Broadband and Sky Talk
Once you've obtained a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) from your current provider, call 08442 410 709 as soon as possible to order Sky Broadband and Sky Talk as the MAC will expire after 30 days.

3. We'll let you know when your Sky Broadband and Sky Talk will go live
We'll send you a letter telling you what date your Sky Broadband & Sky Talk will go live and you can also check the status of your orders through your Sky TV box or online at My Sky.

Sky Broadband should be up and running 10 days after you order (and provide a MAC) and your phone services should be switched over to Sky Talk Line Rental and Calls after a further 10 working days.

If you are switching from another broadband provider with a MAC, you may be without internet access for between 30 minutes and 2 hours on the day of the switchover, which could take place at any time up until midnight of that date. You should not have any loss of phone service when Sky Talk is activated.



How do I get a MAC?

Simply call your current provider and ask them for a MAC to move your broadband services to Sky. They should provide this to you within 5 working days. Make sure you call us with it as soon as you can as the code will expire after 30 days. Below are some useful phone numbers for broadband providers to help you with requesting your MAC. Alternatively if you would prefer to write to your provider to request the code, download one of our pre-written MAC letters to get you started.

Switching from a cable provider


Sky Talk is exclusively available to Sky TV customers.

If you currently have a cable phone service and don't have an active BT line, it's still easy to switch...

If you are a new Sky TV customer and subscribe to Sky Talk Line Rental and a Sky Talk calls package and you don't have an existing BT line, we can arrange installation of a new line. We will inform you of the installation charge when you place your Sky TV and Sky Talk order. If you miss or cancel your appointment without giving us at least 3 days notice, you will lose your install fee and we may make a further charge to cover any additional costs we incur.

1. Book Sky TV and Sky Talk today
We may be able to arrange installation of a new Sky Talk phone line when you join SKy TV - please call 08442 411 076 for details.

2. Cancel your cable TV
Once your Sky TV is installed and, if you have a cable TV contract, simply ask your provider to cancel your TV contract – there’s usually a 30 day notice period.

3. Order Sky Broadband
Once your Sky Talk (or other BT compatible provider) phone line is active, just give us a call or visit sky.com to place your Sky Broadband order.

4. Cancel your cable broadband and phone contract
To ensure that you have no interruption to your broadband and phone service we recommend that you take this step last. You may receive billing from both Sky and your cable company from the date your Sky Broadband goes live to the end of your cable notice period. You can download our cable cancellation letters to get you started. If you are with another cable company, please follow the same steps as above.

5. Once your Sky TV is installed you can also check the status of your orders through your Sky TV Box
You can check the status of your Broadband and Talk orders through your Sky TV Box – press the Interactive button, select Sky Active then My Sky Account and then Track My Order to see the real time status of your order. You can also check the status of your orders online through My Sky, and you will receive letters to advise you when your Sky Talk and Broadband will go live.

Switching from a fully unbundled provider


What does this mean? If you are with a non-BT provider who has taken over the telephone line and the broadband and moved them to their own equipment in the telephone exchange (called Local Loop Unbundling) then you are with a fully unbundled provider (companies like Talk Talk provide such lines). This means you do not currently have a compatible BT line.

If this is the case, the Sky availability checker will identify that your number is not recognised as a compatible BT line, which you need in order to get Sky Broadband & Sky Talk. To get Sky Broadband in this instance, check what products are available in your area using our postcode checker and then follow the steps below:

1. Book Sky TV and Sky Talk today

2. Order Sky Broadband
Once your Sky Talk (or other BT compatible provider) phone line is active, just give us a call or visit sky.com to place your Sky Broadband order.

3. Once your Sky TV is installed you can also check the status of your orders through your Sky TV Box
You can check the status of your Broadband and Talk orders through your Sky TV Box – press the Interactive button, select Sky Active then My Sky Account and then Track My Order to see the real time status of your order. You can also check the status of your orders online through My Sky, and you will receive letters to advise you when your Sky Talk and Sky Broadband will go live.

If you are switching from an unbundled telephone and broadband provider to Sky Talk Line Rental, Calls and Broadband, you will lose your existing broadband service on the day that your Sky Talk Line Rental is activated. It will take up to ten days for Sky Broadband to be activated after you have placed your Sky Broadband order.
